Phil Parkinson will need to ruthlessly axe Wrexham player from League One squad after Ollie Palmer decision

Ollie Palmer has made a decision on his Wrexham future and it’s bad news for one player.

Wrexham have endured a pretty hectic couple of days recently that culminated in them beating Crawley Town 2-1 on Saturday.

Prior to that, the Welsh completed two signings and let a long-term servant of the club secure a move elsewhere.

Wrexham signed Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez within a few hours of each other this past Friday, putting an end to their striker search.

On the same day, Rob McElhenney sent a message after James Jones left Wales to join League One rivals, Burton Albion.

With two new centre-forwards now at the club, it emerged that Ollie Palmer had transferred interest from teams in the EFL.

Phil Parkinson must axe Wrexham player from League One

However, reports have since come to light on deadline day, which claim that Palmer wants to stay at Wrexham and fight for his place.

It’s an interesting move from the striker and also means that Phil Parkinson will have to drop one player when selecting his 22-man League One squad for the remainder of the season.

In September, as shown below, the Welsh outfit had to register 20 players (goalkeepers don’t have to be included).

Jones was included in that list and has now left, which would have taken the number down to 19.

However, Matty James has since arrived at the club as a free agent, while the January additions of Ryan Longman, Rodriguez, and Smith would take them past the 22-man squad limit by one.

In turn, one of the currently registered players will have to drop out as Parkinson obviously won’t choose not to register one of his new signings.

Will Boyle likely to be axed from Wrexham League One squad

Palmer leaving would have solved the problem but as he’s staying there are a couple of players who may be fearing for their role.

Anthony Forde was not registered anyway so it’s obvious he won’t earn a place, especially now Longman is competing at right-wing-back.

Luke Bolton could be axed but it seems likely Will Boyle will have to make way this month.

The 29-year-old was previously a key player but has made just three appearances so far this term, none of which have come in the league.
