Humphrey Ker was wrong about Paul Mullin when he made prediction for striker in March

Humphrey Ker’s prediction for Paul Mullin has now been proven to be very wrong, likely to the dismay of Wrexham fans.

Wrexham signed Paul Mullin on a free transfer from Cambridge United all the way back in 2021.

Shaun Harvey sent a Mullin warning to Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac regarding the potential finances involved in a deal at the time.

Thankfully, the owners did not heed that advice, and what followed was three prolific seasons that saw the now 30-year-old net over 100 goals as Wrexham rose from the National League to League One.

However, Mullin’s story at the Racecourse Ground took an unexpected turn in the 2024/25 campaign.

Humphrey Ker prediction for Paul Mullin

Mullin was injured going into the previous campaign, and this had an impact on his form, notching just three league goals.

In the end, Phil Parkinson axed the Wrexham legend in late January, keeping him out of the matchday squad for the remainder of the year.

Despite falling massively out of favour, club chief Humphrey Ker predicted a ‘huge’ future for Mullin at Wrexham back in March.

Ker was hopeful a good pre-season would help the striker, saying at the time: “Last season, he really came into his own, had that incredible run to the end of the season, and fired us to promotion in that run-in.

“Then, this season, he had a big surgery in the summer, it has taken time for him to get back, and ultimately, this season has not gone the way that any of us thought it was going to, or any of us would have wanted to go for Paul.

“But I think that there is still a huge future for him at the club. I think there is still a prospect of a really great pre-season and coming back into the fold.”

When will Paul Mullin leave Wrexham

Ker’s prediction did not come to pass, as Mullin left Wrexham in June, signing for Wigan Athletic on loan.

The centre-forward returns to North Wales at the end of 2025/26 and will have a year left on his contract.

Wigan fans have been discussing signing Mullin from Wrexham on a permanent basis in the last week.

But it remains to be seen where he will end up. However, it looks pretty likely that the club legend will be on the move once again this summer.

Wrexham have improved their striker ranks a great deal this year, and unless there is a change in the dugout, it’s hard to see Mullin getting back into the team anytime soon.
