Wrexham have completed what looks like their final signing of the summer in a deal worth £2.7m as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney continue to splash the cash.

It has already been a historic summer for Wrexham with three club-record deals already over the line and Callum Doyle joining from Manchester City in a deal worth £8m.

Wrexham signed Ben Sheaf from Coventry City to add to their midfield options on deadline day and Phil Parkinson has also secured the loan signing of Issa Kabore.

In one final twist to transfer deadline day, Wrexham have now announced the signing of Dominic Hyam from Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers.

Peterborough have signed Thomas O’Connor on a season-long loan deal, freeing up Parkinson to add to his defensive options.

Wrexham agreed a £2.7m deal for Hyam and the 29-year-old brings a wealth of experience in the second-tier to provide cover all across the back three for the Red Dragons.

On signing, Hyam stated: “It’s really exciting for me. I’m looking forward to meeting the players and the fans and getting started.

“Speaking to people about Wrexham, and seeing how quickly it has gone from strength to strength, it is so attractive as a player to be a part of that.

“Seeing the success, and how well they have done on the pitch, and how they have strengthened every season, just really attracted me to it. I thought it was a really exciting opportunity.”

Parkinson stated: “I’m really pleased to welcome Dominic to the Club. He’s a player with a proven record at Championship level. He’s a versatile player who will add real competition to the squad.”

Dominic Hyam’s Championship record

With the acquisition of Conor Coady and young duo Max Cleworth and Lewis Brunt already impressing, Wrexham’s defence now looks rock solid.

They leaked chances and goals at the start of the campaign but were fantastic against Millwall during their 2-0 win and Hyam will only make them stronger.

The £2.7m deal takes Wrexham’s spending close to the £40m mark and Reynolds and McElhenney have certainly backed the manager this summer.

Wrexham’s owners vowed to be ‘aggressive’ and it is now over to Parkinson and his coaching staff to get this squad to gel together as quickly as possible.
