Wrexham fans are closing in on the signing of Ryan Longman with the Hull City man seemingly on the verge of arriving.

Phil Parkinson’s full focus will be on Thursday night as Wrexham welcome Birmingham City to the STōK Cae Ras.

Wrexham face a real battle here but at least an improved performance is needed after last week’s defeat to Shrewsbury Town.

Transfer business is bubbling away though with Wrexham close to securing a first addition of the January window.

Reports earlier this week claimed that Wrexham were close to signing Ryan Longman from Hull City.

Further rumours on Wednesday stated that Longman was set for a Wrexham medical ahead of a £500,000 move.

Hull City boss on Ryan Longman deal

Oxford United accepted defeat in the Longman race earlier this week as Gary Rowett ruled out a move.

The reports of Wrexham hijacking their deal appear to have come true with Longman on the verge of joining.

Longman offers outstanding versatility and could be used as a winger or wing back on either flank whilst even having some experience as a striker.

The 24-year-old may well be in attendance to watch Wrexham against Birmingham with Hull boss Ruben Selles offering an update.

Speaking to BBC Radio Humberside, Selles admitted that Longman has been given permission to finalise a move elsewhere.

Selles wouldn’t confirm whether Wrexham have won the race for Longman but suggested that there may be an announcement on Thursday.

“Ryan Giles and Ryan Longman, both of them have permission today to go and finalise their deals with other clubs and make their medicals,” said Selles.

“More to comment hopefully a bit later on in the day.

“I know but I cannot comment about that,” he added when asked whether Wrexham are the club signing Longman.

Will Wrexham do more business?

Longman represents a sensible signing for Wrexham.

The £500,000 fee won’t break the bank for Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds whilst Longman will has plenty of untapped potential at 24.

Versatile, a threat going forward and with Championship experience under his belt, Longman can become a key man for a long time.

Fans will still want more additions though and we would not be surprised to see other targets follow Longman to Wrexham.

Wrexham want another striker this month and unless Parkinson believes that Longman is a forward, that pursuit is surely still ongoing.

Michael Smith has been linked with Wrexham and a move for the Sheffield Wednesday forward may well materialise before the deadline.
