After a surprisingly slow start in the market, business really picked up at promotion-pushing Wrexham in the final few days of the 2025 winter transfer window.
With alarm bells perhaps ringing after a run of three games without a win – a run which included defeats to Shrewsbury Town and Stevenage – Wrexham burst into life in the transfer market, securing the services of Sam Smith, Ryan Longman and Jay Rodriguez in quick succession.
The biggest splash of the window so far from Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds came in the form of the record fee paid to sign Smith from Reading. Smith put pen to paper after Wrexham agreed to fork out around £2m for the striker’s services, with fans hoping that he can provide the goals that Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer have been unable to provide since the step up to League One.
While there wasn’t any more players coming through the door on deadline day, fans kept a close eye on potential outgoings. The likes of Palmer, Luke Bolton and William Boyle were all linked with leaving the club before the window shut at 11pm on Monday 3rd February. However, ultimately, all three stayed leaving Phil Parkinson with a rather bloated Wrexham squad to deal with despite the departure of cult hero Anthony Forde.
