Leeds United could help long-time Wrexham target Patrick Bamford secure a transfer this summer.

After previous links in January, it emerged once again earlier this summer that Wrexham are interested in signing Patrick Bamford.

The former Middlesbrough player is currently on the books of Leeds United, but his game time was heavily reduced in 2024/25.

Manager Daniel Farke has told Bamford he can leave Leeds as he is not in his plans for the forthcoming Premier League campaign.

This is good for any potential suitors, but there is one potential problem regarding a transfer away from Elland Road.

How Leeds United could help Wrexham sign Patrick Bamford

Wrexham are spending more on wages following their recent promotion to the Championship.

But Bamford is a high earner, and as The Wrexham Insider’s transfer expert Graeme Bailey told us, Leeds will have to help Bamford move due to his ‘very high’ wages.

Asked if Bamford is Championship-bound this summer, he said: “Maybe, it depends. His wages are very high and his wages have gone back to Premier League level now.

“So Leeds are going to have to pull some sort of deal off to supplement that, to pay him off. It’s going to be very expensive.

“There is MLS interest in him, but yeah, Leeds are going to have to help with that deal. If they don’t help, he’ll stay. Let’s see…”

Wrexham will spend big on a striker

Whether it’s Bamford or somebody else, Wrexham are spending big on a striker this summer.

Ryan Hardie has already arrived from Plymouth Argyle, but the Red Dragons have given Phil Parkinson money to sign another top forward.

It’s believed that the Welsh club will have £10m just to spend on a new number nine.

That means, after Liberato Cacace and Lewis O’Brien, Wrexham will break their transfer record again once they get another striker through the door.
