Wrexham stumbled at Wigan Athletic in pursuit of their third successive promotion.
Phil Parkinson is still positive about promotion and so he should be with the Red Dragons still having destiny in their own hands knowing four wins guarantees a spot in the Championship.
Eoghan O’Connell was magnificent against Wigan and with his grit and determination at the back, Wrexham will be confident in securing that dream of automatic promotion.
With plans for next season beginning to formulate, Lee Hendrie believes Wrexham should chase Jamie Vardy should they make the jump up a division and one Red Dragon used to play with Vardy whilst at Leicester.

Matty James revealed his feelings on Jamie Vardy
Wrexham midfielder Matty James won the Premier League at Leicester with Vardy back in 2016 and spoke about his former team mate back in March 2024 as he prepared to face him whilst at Bristol City.
As per Bristol Live, James was full of admiration for Vardy and believed that he still had the longevity to be a threat despite his age.
James stated: “Vards is such a good lad and he’s an unbelievable player in terms of where he’s gone from the day he signed at Leicester.
“For us, this non-league mentality and he fitted in straight away; the way he was as a person, as a player, and he’s such a giving guy, he would do anything for anybody.
“And the relationship a lot of lads had with him was probably why he’s still at the football club, because of the loyalty he’s shown.”
Jamie Vardy’s Championship record
Should the Red Dragons gain promotion to the Championship, it is expected that they will strengthen their squad once again despite their success in League One.
Humphrey Ker refused to rule out signing Vardy following last season’s promotion and the England international is out of contract in the summer.
| Jamie Vardy’s record in the Championship | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Vardy | 98 | 38 | 16 |
Wrexham will require Championship experience in order to compete with sides the level above and there is no one better at knowing how to pick up points and goals in the division.
However, plans for new acquisitions can be shelved for now as Parkinson’s men have the task of winning four football matches to etch their names in the record books forever.
