Price tag slashed on 18-goal sensation, but Wrexham move now looks unlikely despite recent interest

Wrexham added Kieffer Moore to Phil Parkinson’s attacking options earlier this week, which may just rule out a move for Richard Kone.

Phil Parkinson has made it clear that the Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer era is over at Wrexham.

2025 has seen Wrexham bring in striker after striker, completely revamping Parkinson’s attacking options.

January saw Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez arrive, helping Wrexham secure promotion to the Championship.

The summer has brought further changes, with Mullin joining Wigan Athletic on loan and both Ryan Hardie and Josh Windass arriving.

Wrexham even snapped up Kieffer Moore earlier this week, pushing Palmer further down the pecking order and paving the way for Mo Faal to join Port Vale on loan.

Richard Kone asking price drops amid Wrexham interest

More changes could arrive, with Wrexham chasing Ipswich Town’s Nathan Broadhead.

Broadhead is more of a versatile forward than a central striker, but other attacking options have been linked.

Reports last week suggested that Wrexham are interested in signing Richard Kone from Wycombe Wanderers.

The Ivorian smashed 18 League One goals last season, helping Wycombe challenge Wrexham for promotion to the Championship.

Kone’s rise to prominence has been even more impressive than Wrexham’s, going from the Essex Senior League to League One stardom in just 18 months.

Understandably, Wrexham have taken an interest in Kone, and Sky Sports claim that Wycombe’s asking price has now dropped.

It’s suggested that Wycombe originally wanted around £5.5million for Kone, but that has now dropped to £3million plus add-ons.

Wycombe are well aware that Kone can simply walk away at the end of his contract next summer, and would take a guaranteed £3million fee with the summer transfer deadline approaching.

Wrexham may still pay attention to this race, just in case there are movements on the likes of Jack Marriott and even Jay Rodriguez before the summer deadline.

A move currently looks unlikely, though, with Moore’s arrival surely keeping Wrexham out of the striker race for the foreseeable future.

Swansea City unlikely to sign Richard Kone

Wrexham may have chosen to go with proven Championship quality in Moore, rather than a talented youngster in Kone.

Kone may not arrive at the STōK Cae Ras, but Championship rivals will be right in the mix.

Swansea City have also eyed a move for Kone, but a move to South Wales seemingly isn’t on the cards.

Wales Online’s Tom Coleman claims that Swansea are ‘aware’ of Wycombe’s new demands for Kone, but a deal ‘seems an unlikely one’.

Swansea have instead looked at Hammarby’s Jusef Erabi and appear to have moved on from Kone as things stand.

That means Kone is unlikely to be calling Wales home any time soon, but he could face Wrexham again this season, having been a League One menace last term.
