Report shares Jamie Vardy’s summer transfer stance, it’s surely time to end Wrexham chatter

Wrexham signed two strikers in the January transfer window, but another forward arriving this summer cannot be ruled out.

Wrexham sit second in the League One table with just two games to go, leaving Phil Parkinson in with a real shot of a third straight promotion.

Rob McElhenney has given a rallying cry to Wrexham fans ahead of facing Charlton Athletic, with his Saturday’s clash crucial in the promotion race.

Should Wrexham get over the line, Parkinson may well look to make more changes in his attacking ranks.

Wrexham signed Sam Smith in a club-record deal in January, before adding Jay Rodriguez from Burnley.

Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer are now out of favour and could leave Wrexham, whilst Modou Faal could be a contender for a loan move next season.

Jamie Vardy’s Premier League aspirations

Wrexham are likely to explore the striking market again this summer, especially if Mullin and Palmer do move on.

The Championship will be a real challenge if Wrexham get there, and Parkinson may hit the market for reinforcements.

One name that just won’t go away is Jamie Vardy.

In truth, it’s unclear whether Wrexham would actually make a move for Vardy, but his name keeps being connected with a move to the STōK Cae Ras.

Lee Hendrie backed Vardy for Wrexham earlier in April, whilst Humphrey Ker refused to rule out a move for Vardy a year ago.

That wasn’t quite the seal of approval some believed it to be, with Ker admitting that Vardy’s name hadn’t even been mentioned inside Wrexham.

The Telegraph can now throw a spanner in the works of any pipe dream here, claiming that Vardy still believes that he can play in the Premier League.

Leicester City have now suffered relegation to the Championship, leading Vardy to send an emotional message to supporters.

Vardy may well leave the Foxes this summer, but he allegedly believes that he can still make an impact in the top flight.

Playing in League One or the Championship may not be in his plans as things stand, and those tenuous Wrexham links can surely be put to one side now.

Surely time to end the Vardy chatter

This is a classic case of a player who makes headlines being connected to a club which makes headlines.

That may sound like a marriage made in heaven for script-writers, but, funnily enough, not everything at Wrexham revolves around publicity and exposure.

Sure, Vardy would be a fine addition to ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ and we have no doubt that he would score a few goals as well.

Wrexham have gone down the route of experienced strikers and will likely carry Jay Rodriguez, Steven Fletcher and Jack Marriott into the next season.

Those three strikers carry an average age of 34.3, and that goes up to 35.25 if you add Vardy and make it a quarter of over-30 strikers.

Parkinson loves experience and there is nothing wrong with that, but we just can’t see Wrexham adding another striker of that age profile this summer.

Until Vardy either retires or joins another club, his name is likely to remain connected with Wrexham – but we just can’t see this one happening.
