Shaun Harvey has been a key part of Wrexham’s success over the last four years.
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds bought Wrexham in February 2021 but, as was to be expected, had little idea how to run a football club.
As a result, they turned to Shaun Harvey, who had previously enjoyed spells with the likes of Leeds United and Bradford City.
After previously joining as an advisor to the board, Wrexham announced in December 2023 that Harvey had been appointed as a director.
Harvey is set for a new Wrexham role once the transfer window shuts, with the club confirming recently: “Following the recent appointments to the Club’s full-time staff, the responsibilities of two current Board Members are to change from the February 4, 2025.
“Humphrey Ker will become the Board’s Community Director and Shaun Harvey will assume the role of the Board’s Non-Executive Director.”
Before he takes something of a backseat, however, Harvey has been hard at work trying to get deals over the line this winter.

Shaun Harvey role in Wrexham transfer play for Michael Smith
The Red Dragons have now brought Jay Rodriguez and Sam Smith to the club to fix their striker woes.
Prior to that, however, Wrexham made a move for Michael Smith of Sheffield Wednesday, who was also a target of Phil Parkinson’s in the summer window.
Now, The Athletic have shared an insight into the Welsh outfit’s move for Michael Smith and what Harvey did.
They mentioned how Wrexham wanted the Owls’ Smith in the summer and again returned for him in the January window.
The report adds that Harvey attended Sheffield Wednesday’s clash versus Bristol City on January 22 but even with his personal visit, the Yorkshire outfit wouldn’t go to the negotiating table.
Given he’s been trying to sign him for two windows now, Parkinson was probably somewhat disappointed. But the alternative options Wrexham have brought in are solid.

Michael Smith vs Jay Rodriguez and Sam Smith
Michael Smith would have been a solid addition to the Hollywood-owned club, scoring six goals and providing four assists in 26 Championship appearances.
However, he is 33 and Wrexham already have more than enough centre-forwards on their books who are at the back end of their playing career.
In comparison, Sam Smith has 11 League One goals this term and is 26, meaning he could be an option for at least the next four years.
Rodriguez is another old signing but it’s hard to turn down a move for a player who has previously shone in the Premier League.
So, while no Michael Smith is a blow, the options signed instead of him should be more than enough to help Wrexham going forward.
