Wrexham can offer one thing Watford can’t match in Danny Ings transfer race this summer

Wrexham have added a new attacker to Phil Parkinson’s options but another striker may still be on his radar.

Anybody who watched the most recent episode of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ would have felt a pull on their heartstrings.

Paul Mullin spoke about his Wrexham situation and the pain of going from the club’s goalscoring hero to completely out of the picture.

Mullin may leave Wrexham this summer and that won’t bring an end to the attacking changes.

Steven Fletcher has already left Wrexham, Ollie Palmer is in a similar situation to Mullin and Modou Faal may need a loan move.

Wrexham have now signed Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle, but other strikers are surely in Phil Parkinson’s thoughts.

Wrexham stability should appeal to Danny Ings

Wrexham are keen on Danny Ings, with the former England international departing West Ham United on a free transfer this summer.

Ings is 32 now, but his predatory instincts could see him score regularly in the Championship.

Wrexham are not alone in the race, though, as Watford are also eyeing a move for Ings.

The Hornets pose a threat as an established Championship club that can offer Ings the chance to stay in the South of England after his spell with West Ham.

One thing Watford don’t have is stability in the dugout, having recently axed Tom Cleverley in favour of Paulo Pezzolano.

Watford have become known for chopping and changing managers, going through eight bosses since Wrexham hired Phil Parkinson in 2021.

Parkinson is still going strong and we certainly can’t see him moving on any time soon, with Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds right behind him.

Ings will surely factor this into his decision, as he prepares to make a crucial move.

Joining West Ham didn’t quite work out, and Ings will be looking to make sure his next move sees him play a key role as he approaches his mid-30s.

The last thing Ings needs is to join Watford and then see another managerial change come in a matter of months, potentially bringing in a manager who may not want him.

Pezzolano could be Watford boss for the next five years, but their reputation for hiring and firing can’t be ignored.

Stability is key here and Wrexham can offer that, with Ings likely to play a key role under Parkinson for the foreseeable future if he signs on the dotted line.

Ryan Hardie move should not rule out Danny Ings swoop

Wrexham just signed another striker, with Hardie rubber-stamping his switch to the STōK Cae Ras on Monday.

The focus may now turn to offloading strikers rather than bringing more in, but January showed that Parkinson values major firepower.

Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez joined Wrexham, with Parkinson taking nothing for granted in his pursuit of goals.

Hardie brings a proven Championship record with 22 goals across his two second-tier seasons with Plymouth Argyle.

Ings has racked up the goals at Premier League level, though, and that kind of quality would still be welcomed at Wrexham.

Mullin, Palmer and Faal could follow Fletcher out, so there may be more room for at least one more striker signing.

£700,000 for Hardie and a free transfer for Ings would be smart business for Wrexham, and a deal for the former England international is surely still in the pipeline despite Hardie’s arrival this week.
