Wrexham had a busy summer transfer window as they brought in 13 new signings as they prepared for life in the Championship.

There was a sizeable investment from the owners of the club, Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, as Wrexham spent £33 million in the summer.

Several of the signings for the Red Dragons have had the desired impact, while Ryan Hardie may be exploring alternative options in January.

One signing that has had the desired impact has been Dominic Hyam, who has helped shore up the Wrexham defence, allowing the goalkeepers to make fewer saves in games.

The injury to Danny Ward has allowed Arthur Okonkwo to flourish in goal; however, it appears that Phil Parkinson is set to add to his squad in that department.

Wrexham close to signing goalkeeper Sam Hocking

It is being reported by Pete O’Rourke on social media that Wrexham are close to signing youthful Australian goalkeeper Sam Hocking, who has had trials at other Championship clubs.

He had been on trial at the club and is set to sign permanently after impressing those he needed to earn the deal.

It is believed that he is being offered a short deal of one year by the Red Dragons, with the keeper having previously spent four years in the academy of Perth Glory, who are a club in the A-League.

Now after spending some time with the local Perth side Armadale Soccer Club, the 18-year-old is set to join the Welsh club, with the Australian side claiming he was ‘arguably one of Western Australia’s best prospects between the sticks’ after announcing his signing on Instagram.

Sam Hocking’s potential role at Wrexham

It is not expected that Sam Hocking is set to be a first-team fixture this season at the club; however, in football things can never be predicted if he impresses.

He would be added as one of several options for Wrexham in goals, with Danny Ward ruled out of action for a sustained period through injury.

Arthur Okonkwo has been deputising in goal admirably, and there is a third option behind him in Callum Burton.

The future signing would be expected to work his way into the team later in his career if he can impress at youth level and earn a long-term contract to extend his stay at the Racecourse Ground.
