Wrexham could allow a number of players to depart the club this summer if they can complete a deal for Lewis O’Brien, Wrexham Insider understands.

Wrexham have agreed a fee for O’Brien but are so far struggling to meet the wage demands of the Nottingham Forest midfielder.

Phil Parkinson is looking to add to his central midfield options and O’Brien is just one target he is chasing in the position. Myles Peart-Harris is also still of interest.

Should Wrexham complete a deal for O’Brien and other targets, it would leave the Red Dragons edging close to their 25-man limit for the Championship. A number of departures could be looming…

Lewis O’Brien transfer to Wrexham could spark player sales from Phil Parkinson

Wrexham are interested in Liberato Cacace from Serie A outfit Empoli as they bid to strengthen their squad for the new season.

Parkinson has chosen a 30-man squad for pre-season as Ollie Palmer and Jacob Mendy are among the players to travel to Australia.

However, according to TBR Football’s chief transfer expert Graeme Bailey, should O’Brien arrive at the Racecourse Ground, the club would be looking to offload members of the current squad.

Bailey stated: “So I can give you an answer on Lewis O’Brien – we can confirm that talks have taken place, but am told it is a long way from being done.

“Their interest for O’Brien has only emerged this month but he is a player that they do like – they are looking to add some Championship experience.

“With that they haven’t done anything with Charlie Savage to this point. If they do add another – then there is so possibility they allow others to go – that is just something they will address as and when.”

Ollie Palmer among Wrexham players needing to impress on Australia tour

Wrexham’s pre-season fixtures down under will give those players with their futures under threat the chance to show Parkinson they can still be part of his plans.

Palmer and Mendy were among those who saw opportunities limited last season, as well as the likes of George Evans and Sebastian Revan.

Elliot Lee has been backed for a move away from Wrexham but will be hoping to prove that he can handle the step up to the second tier and play a vital role for the Red Dragons.

The first clash of the tour is against Melbourne Victory and all eyes will be on how the Wrexham squad have returned after their summer break.
