Wrexham’s attentions turns to the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon as Phil Parkinson and co travel to take on League Two side Harrogate Town.

Wrexham have been afforded something of a break since late heartbreak at Charlton Athletic last weekend.

Midweek fixtures come with regularity in League One but Wrexham have been stewing on a late penalty decision at Charlton for more than a week.

Wrexham were pegged back late on and were forced to take a 2-2 draw as Max Cleworth was harshly penalised for handball.

James McClean was frustrated with Wrexham’s late draw but Phil Parkinson will be keen to get back to winning ways in the FA Cup.

Wrexham have been drawn against Harrogate Town in the FA Cup and head to Yorkshire on Sunday afternoon in search of a victory.

Harrogate Town boss on Wrexham rise

Wrexham faced Harrogate twice in League Two last season, so they are no strangers to Phil Parkinson and co.

Both games were tricky though with Wrexham throwing away a 2-0 lead away from home to draw 2-2.

Harrogate then frustrated Wrexham back in March, earning a 0-0 draw at the STōK Cae Ras.

Wrexham fans were giving Simon Weaver some stick that night and the Harrogate boss has now offered his view on Sunday’s clash.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Weaver admitted his excitement at facing Wrexham due to the ‘glamour’ around the tie.

Weaver noted Wrexham’s ‘big investment’ under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, and believes that Harrogate fans will turn up in numbers.

Weaver added that Wrexham are a ‘strong outfit’ in League One but believes his side can pose a stern test – just as they did last season.

“We’re looking forward to it because they’ve had big investment over the last few years and there’s a lot of glamour attached to that,” said Weaver.

“All the fans will be filling the stands and it’s going to be a good occasion.”

“As soon as the tie was made and it was Wrexham at home we thought we’d got a heck of a chance of it being on television so we were delighted we’ve been given the stage to perform on.

“They’re second in League One now and a strong outfit but I just want us to focus more on what we can control. Our last two performances against them were largely very good.

“The first half at Wrexham we were quite controlled and the performance at our place when we pulled it back to 2-2 was a good example of what we can do when we’re on it,” he added.

Wrexham surely ready to rotate

Wrexham have had more than a week off since the Charlton draw and won’t play in midweek ahead of facing Mansfield Town next weekend.

Parkinson may be tempted to rotate his starting XI for this game, just as he has in the EFL Trophy too.

Lewis Brunt will hope for a rare Wrexham start whilst the likes of Callum Burton, Will Boyle, Sebastian Revan, James Jones and Modou Faal could be in contention.

Wrexham even have two new signings who could feature with Matty James and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson now on board.

Parkinson will take this game very seriously after two difficult games against Harrogate last season but this also presents a chance for some fringe Wrexham players to start.
