Paul Mullin starts and Phil Parkinson snubs key player again in Wrexham predicted XI for Rotherham United

Phil Parkinson will have to get his team selection spot on to ensure Wrexham do not slip up against Rotherham United.

Wrexham beat Rotherham United after Paul Mullin’s 16-second goal proved enough to hand the away side a 1-0 win.

They will now face off at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday afternoon where, surprisingly, the Red Dragons haven’t been at their best recently.

Phil Parkinson and co. dominated at home for much of 2024/25, but recent weeks have seen them drop one too many points and lose back-to-back matches there for the first time since Parkinson became manager.

However, Rotherham are 14th in the division ahead of the weekend and despite winning their last two in League One, Wrexham should be favourites for the tie.

Wrexham team and injury news for Rotherham United

Wrexham go into the game with a couple of injury concerns to deal with.

Their midfield looks set to be weakened for the tie after Andy Cannon’s injury likely ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

He’s previously been a key player but has suffered a long-term injury and Humphrey Ker has sent Cannon a gift to keep him occupied during his lay-off.

Another blow in midfield looks to have happen against Huddersfield Town as well with George Dobson potentially injured in that clash after he was seen shaking his head and going straight down the tunnel with a member of Wrexham’s medical staff when he was taken off on Tuesday.

The club are yet to confirm the news, but Parkinson will likely provide an update closer to the game.

Paul Mullin returns in Wrexham predicted XI vs Rotherham United

With two of his main central midfielders likely missing for the game, Parkinson will have to make changes.

Elliot Lee will probably come back into the starting lineup alongside the ever-present Ollie Rathbone, while Matty James will take up the deepest role of the three.

Further back, Lewis Brunt and James McClean, the latter of which was back on the bench in midweek, should come back into the side.

There’s no room in the team for the club’s top assist holder, Ryan Barnett, however, as Ryan Longman continues to shine in the right-wing-back role.

Further forward, Wrexham fans were not impressed with Jay Rodriguez against Huddersifled, and he could now be dropped as goals in League One allude him.

Mullin hasn’t featured in any of the club’s last six league fixtures, but he is the obvious option to start ahead of the former Burnley ace.
