Paul Mullin’s return, goals galore and more – 3 predictions for Blackpool vs Wrexham

Wrexham’s biggest game of the 2024/25 season so far will take place on Easter Monday, as the Welsh outfit travel to face Blackpool.

Phil Parkinson’s side currently sit in third place in League One, just one point adrift of Wycombe Wanderers heading into the final three games of the campaign.

Wrexham had been occupying the final automatic promotion place before the games on Good Friday. The disappointing 1-1 draw with Bristol Rovers – who came into the game on the back of six straight defeats – and Wycombe’s 2-0 win over Bolton Wanderers saw Wrexham drop below Mike Dodds’ side in the standings.

Parkinson is remaining optimistic about Wrexham’s automatic promotion hopes however, being keen to stress that the club are ‘still in a great position’ heading into the final games.

In order to have any hope of securing second place in League One, Wrexham will have to bag all three points against a tricky Blackpool team at Bloomfield Road.

Here’s The Wrexham Insider’s three predictions ahead of the crucial game.

High-scoring game between Wrexham and Blackpool on Easter Monday

Speaking ahead of the game against Blackpool, Phil Parkinson admitted that his team played like they had ‘the handbrake on a times’ in recent weeks, and that they intend to be ‘really positive in everything they do’ on Easter Monday to find a spark in the final third.

Wrexham struggled to create much against both Bristol Rovers and Wigan in their last two League One games, accumulating an xG of just 1.17 across those fixtures – failing to register a single shot on target in the latter.

Up against a Blackpool side who’ve conceded the second most goals of any team in the top ten this season, they’ve the perfect opportunity to be more expansive and create more chances for the likes of Sam Smith in the final third.

At the other end of the park, with Wrexham likely taking a few more risks going forward, expect Blackpool’s potent attack – that’s actually scored more goals than Wrexham this season – to create a few goalscoring opportunities of their own too.

This game certainly has all the makings of a high-scoring affair.

Paul Mullin returns to the matchday squad

Fans have been calling for it for weeks, and after failing to 14 of the last 15 Wrexham matchday squads, Paul Mullin could finally be in line for a call-up on Easter Monday.

Given fixture congestion and the struggles in the final third, Mullin’s return to the squad would certainly make a lot of sense.

The striker’s last goal for Wrexham also came against Blackpool on Boxing Day in a 2-1 wina goal that club owner Ryan Reynolds was keen to praise at the time.

Wrexham capitalise on Wycombe slip up

If Wycombe are ever going to drop points between now and the end of the 2024/25 season, it feels like Easter Monday is the time it happens.

Dodds’ side face an incredibly tricky game on Monday, welcoming fourth-placed Charlton Athletic to Adams Park.

Charlton are still in with a shout of earning automatic promotion, sitting five points off second place, and head into the game as one of League One’s in-form teams. The London club have won six of their last eight league games, and actually beat Wycombe earlier in the season thanks to a brace from Miles Leaburn.
