Wrexham dropped points once more this weekend with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers, but it was obviously going to happen given the way the game went.
After drawing with lowly Cambridge United last weekend, Wrexham were keen to get back to winning ways against a Bristol Rovers side who had endured chaos this week with managerial changes.
Things were going to plan for Phil Parkinson’s side thanks to an early goal from the talismanic Elliot Lee, and even with the midfielder coming off injured moments later, Wrexham remained on top for much of the game.
However, as is so often the way with football, Wrexham’s dominance counted for very little as Bristol Rovers snatched a late equaliser to share the points.

Mark Griffiths thought Wrexham should have been out of sight vs Bristol Rovers
Iconic Wrexham commentator, Mark Griffiths, saw the inevitable equaliser coming a mile off, as he observed the Red Dragons’ wastefulness in front of goal and suggested it might be something they live to regret by the end of the match.
Discussing the flow of the game around the 85-minute mark, Griffiths said: “This game should be over. Wrexham have had enough chances to be three or four up by now, but they’ve not taken them. Let’s just hope it doesn’t come back to bite them in the last five minutes here.”
Lo and behold, Bristol Rovers grabbed their equaliser just one minute later against the run of play as the curse of the commentator struck in devastating and immediate fashion.
To be fair to Parkinson, though, it’s not like he didn’t try his best to get the game put to bed, but a number of members of the Wrexham squad simply were not firing on all cylinders, and it proved costly on the day.

Free-scoring Wrexham are going cold in front of goal
Back in the National League and League Two, Wrexham were renowned for their prolific form in front of goal. Even at the start of this season, fans could rely on the Red Dragons to deliver entertainment and goals.
That appears to have dried up of late, and the struggles are epitomised by Paul Mullin’s rough patch in front of goal.
| Statistic | Wrexham vs Bristol Rovers |
|---|---|
| Total shots | 13 |
| Shots on target | 2 |
| Hit woodwork | 1 |
| Shots off target | 9 |
| Big chances scored | 1 |
Mullin missed two chances against Bristol Rovers that he would previously have stuck in the back of the net, and Parkinson will be hoping the formerly so-reliable striker can return to his best soon.
If not, Wrexham’s plans for the transfer market will be clear: sign a new striker who can fire them to glory, or prepare for another season in League One.
