Wrexham are through to the second round of the Carabao Cup after a dramatic victory against Hull City on Tuesday night.

Wrexham always show a real fighting spirit under Phil Parkinson, and we have seen so many late goals at the STōK Cae Ras over the years.

This was another remarkable fightback, as Wrexham were 3-1 down against Hull City heading into injury time.

Ollie Palmer had other ideas, as the striker came off the bench to score twice and send the game to penalties.

Wrexham scored all five from the spot, including one from Palmer, to dump Hull out of the competition when they appeared to have one foot in the second round.

Wrexham fans on Ollie Palmer

There can be no doubts over the Wrexham hero against Hull.

Palmer caused havoc late on, guiding two headers into the net to send the STōK Cae Ras wild and force extra time.

Palmer was made available by Phil Parkinson just days ago, with his Wrexham journey seemingly coming to an end.

Parkinson named Palmer on the bench against Hull, though, and brought him on in search of goals.

Palmer duly obliged, scoring twice in quick succession before also finding the net in the penalty shootout.

Wrexham fans have taken to social media to rave about Palmer, praising him for coming off the bench to make such a big impact.

Some joked about a new contract for Palmer, while others believe Parkinson simply has to keep him at the club rather than letting him go.

Others simply paid tribute to Palmer, believing that this could be the perfect way to bow out as a Wrexham player.

Ollie Palmer’s future to become clear this month

Palmer’s future has been up in the air for most of 2025.

Bradford City wanted Palmer in January, but no deal was done, and the giant striker struggled for minutes in Wrexham’s promotion push.

The summer has brought more questions, with Palmer fighting for his future before Parkinson made him available for transfer.

This brace throws a cat amongst the pigeons, with Palmer once again reminding Parkinson of his quality in the box.

A departure still appears likely, but Palmer has done his chances no harm after two brilliant goals to knock Hull out.

The transfer deadline is looming large, and Palmer’s future will become clear by the end of the month, with Wrexham possibly fielding a few more interested calls after Tuesday’s display.
