Wrexham secured their spot in the last-16 of the EFL Trophy with a 1-0 win over Crewe Alexandra on December 10th.
The Red Dragons welcomed the League Two side to the Racecourse Ground for a quiet, midweek affair.
As was to be expected, Phil Parkinson made plenty of changes to his team on the night, with no player who started against Burton Albion over the weekend in from the off this time around.
Given the number of changes and so many fringe players being given rare starts, it wasn’t too surprising to see a pretty drab display from Wrexham.
The Welsh outfit lacked cohesion and their forwards, as has so often been the case this term, were poor.
Wrexham fans made their feelings on Modou Faal clear vs Crewe, with their record signing still yet to show his best form for the club.
The home side would eventually take the lead in the 78th minute, however, thanks to academy product Aaron James.
The 19-year-old’s header was enough to see Wrexham beat Crewe, booking their spot in the next round of the EFL Trophy.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson has given Phil Parkinson easy decision to make after Wrexham vs Crewe
Yet again, it was not a striker who stepped up to hand Wrexham their fifth-straight win in all competitions.
The likes of Elliot Lee and Ollie Rathbone have provided the goals in recent weeks, with a centre-back doing so this time around.
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, along with the aforementioned Faal, led the line on the night with the former of that duo really needing to prove himself.
Wrexham signed Bodvarsson on a free transfer in October after Jack Marriott’s injury timeline was confirmed.
The former Bolton Wanderers man has struggled to have any meaningful impact during his time in Wales, however.
He didn’t even make the matchday squad in the club’s last three league matches, meaning he really had to show what he was made of on Tuesday.
But after an underwhelming display and Wrexham looking to sign another striker in January, it seems obvious Parkinson will not be able to justify extending Bodvarsson’s contract once it expires at the end of December.
The Red Dragons already have so many centre-forwards on their books and he simply hasn’t done enough to justify a new deal.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson stats for Wrexham vs Crewe
The striker has now failed to score in five appearances for Wrexham and failed to have much of an impact against Crewe.
As per Sofascore, he managed just 16 touches during his 65 minutes on the pitch on Tuesday.
He was given a joint-low rating of 6.5 along with Josh Adam, had just one shot, which was off target, didn’t attempt a single dribble, won just one of his seven duels, and lost possession four times.
Wrexham want to offer Matty James a new contract after he has shone since his move in October, but it seems very unlikely, especially after Tuesday, that we will see Bodvarsson at the Racecourse in 2025.
