Wrexham have suffered a couple of injury blows in attack and Phil Parkinson has now added a new forward to his options.

Phil Parkinson was delighted to see Paul Mullin open his League One account for the season at Rotherham United last weekend.

That, along with Modou Faal winning Man of the Match in the EFL Trophy, is about as good as the news has got in attack for Wrexham lately.

Mullin started at Rotherham United as Jack Marriott is facing four months on the sidelines and Steven Fletcher is now joining him.

Wrexham don’t want to just rely on Mullin, Faal and Ollie Palmer for the coming months, so Parkinson has turned to free agents.

Wrexham have now secured the signing of Icelandic striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson on a free transfer, bolstering Parkinson’s numbers in attack.

Who is Wrexham signing Jon Dadi Bodvarsson?

Bodvarsson hails from Selfoss in Iceland and started his career with his hometown club.

21 goals in 108 games for Selfoss earned him a move to Norway with Viking, where he continued to show promise with 23 goals in 92 appearances.

A move to Kaiserslautern in January 2016 didn’t really work out and Bodvarsson was sold to Wolverhampton Wanderers just a few months later.

Bodvarsson has been a fixture of the English game ever since, despite only managing three goals in 48 appearances for Wolves.

The 6ft 3in striker bagged 17 goals in 56 outings for Reading before joining Millwall in 2019, where he scored only seven goals in 76 games.

Bolton Wanderers were the next stop for Bodvarsson and he racked up 25 goals in 94 games for the Trotters before leaving at the end of his contract over the summer.

A hard-working and physical forward who knows League One well, Bodvarsson can certainly help replace the influence of Fletcher in the final third.

What the managers say about Jon Dadi Bodvarsson

“Special mention to Jon Dadi, who was absolutely immense up there. I know he has had a tough time in a Millwall shirt but he has come out fighting – he’s tried to show a little bit of steel and a little bit of resolve. The front four pressed and harried. His [Bodvarsson’s] distances covered were absolutely phenomenal,” – Gary Rowett at Millwall, 2020, London News Online.

“He is a brilliant character and a brilliant guy, he has been a huge help to us. He such an excellent person to have around, it is really unfortunate that we have him injured at such a crucial period of the season,” – Bolton boss Ian Evatt, 2024, The Bolton News.

“Jón is the type of player who is always working very hard. He has certain qualities with his physique, but also with his pace. He can hold up a ball but can also be a threat running in behind as well,” – Jaap Stam at Reading, 2017, official Reading website.
