Wrexham are preparing for life in the Championship, but the goal has always been to reach the Premier League.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac were laughed at when they became Wrexham owners and said they wanted to take the club to the National League.

In the last four years, the Red Dragons have won three successive promotions and are now competing in the Championship.

Wrexham haven’t lined out in the second tier for over forty years, but they already have plans to reach the top flight.

Mac has hinted at going for promotion again in the 2025/26 season, and the North American owners have made it clear they are willing to back the club to achieve that goal.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac increase Wrexham spending

The Hollywood actors took over in February 2021, with their first transfer window taking place in the summer of that year.

During that window, Wrexham completed 11 signings, including star man Paul Mullin.

Mullin arrived on a free, with the £200,000 paid to Ben Tozer the only transfer fee paid out.

Four years on, Wrexham’s transfer outlay in the ongoing summer window has increased by 4,900%.

Lewis O’Brien has officially joined in another club record move, taking their spending so far to £10m.

Wrexham still plan to spend millions

While the Red Dragons have already reached the £10m mark, with Reynolds and Mac breaking a record, even more money will be spent this summer.

It comes as Wrexham have put aside £10m to sign what is expected to be a big-name striker before the window slams shut.

That would take their outlay to just above £20m, which is more than a number of teams in the Championship are willing to spend.

At present, there is no firm interest in any centre-forwards, but the club have until September 1 to get a deal done.
