Wrexham had some Hollywood inspiration before producing one of their finest performances of the season in the 2-1 win over Blackpool.

James McClean revealed Rob McElhenney’s speech to the Wrexham squad before the clash with Blackpool and the owner asked the players to relax and drown out the noise.

Wrexham are back in pole position to secure automatic promotion from League One but have another huge encounter at the Racecourse Ground as Charlton boss Nathan Jones has fired a dig at the club.

Phil Parkinson echoed McElhenney’s message to supporters to get the Racecourse ‘bouncing’ against Charlton but an ex-colleague of Parkinson’s believes he is a ‘different man’ after allowing McElhenney so close to the dressing room.

Phil Brown believes Phil Parkinson is a ‘different man’

Speaking on 72+: The EFL Podcast, former Premier League boss Phil Brown believes that Parkinson has changed amid working with the Wrexham owners.

Brown spent some time with Parkinson at Hull City and has discussed Parkinson’s relationship with McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.

Brown stated: “Phil Parkinson must have had a deal going with these guys and I tell you what I’ve known Phil, I’ve worked with Phil quite a long time now you know I’ve known him quite a long time, worked with him at Hull City, very passionate guy.”

The former Hull manager then revealed how he thinks Parkinson has changed as a football manager, he explained: “Having owners that are as glamorous as the two guys that they’ve got, wow Phil’s a different man now.”

Parkinson was appointed by the owners in the summer of 2021 and has guided Wrexham from the National League to the brink of Championship football.

Phil Brown’s Wrexham prediction

Brown managed 123 games in the Championship during spells at Derby County, Hull City and Preston North End and knows what it takes to be successful in the division.

The 65-year-old believes that the Red Dragons can get over the line in the promotion race, he stated: “I think Wrexham are going to do it again, I really do.”

Opta’s supercomputer makes Wrexham favourites for the final automatic promotion spot but the players and staff will know that the upcoming clash will be a tough challenge.

However, with the full support of a home crowd, if the Red Dragons can repeat their performance against Blackpool, they will be a tough proposition for any team to stop.
