Former Wrexham defender Ben Tozer has sent a message about the ‘pleasure’ of playing alongside Steven Fletcher after he left the club.
Wrexham are preparing for the 2025/26 Championship season, and some key decisions have already been made in regards to personnel.
The retained list showed the surprise decision that Wrexham have released Steven Fletcher, despite his significant contributions last season.
Fletcher’s release at Wrexham was controversial, after the striker posted on social media, uggesting that his time in Wales had been drawn to its conclusion ‘not by choice’.
Despite his controversial exit, many have been full of praise for the attacker, with Rob McElhenney praising Fletcher, whilst Ryan Reynolds also reacted to his departure.
Next up, former Dragons centre-back Ben Tozer has commented about Fletcher’s dismissal.

Wrexham forward Steven Fletcher receives message from Ben Tozer following departure
It is clear that Fletcher had a significant impact on the dressing room, as Eoghan O’Connell has previously highlighted, who said: “Fletch is incredible. The influence he’s had on the whole team since he came here has been brilliant.”
After O’Connell’s words, it is no surprise to see yet more players come down and praise the Scotsman, with Ben Tozer sending a message to Fletcher.
On Wrexham’s Instagram post confirming Fletcher leaving Wrexham, Tozer left a comment that read: “Some man! It was a pleasure briefly blocking for you on set pieces too.”
This season, Fletcher bagged eight goals, as well as an assist, playing predominantly as Phil Parkinson’s super-sub.
Phil Parkinson will need Steven Fletcher-esque striker to fulfil super-sub role
Wrexham will need to get recruitment spot on this summer in order to hit the Championship hard, and record yet another incredible season. One area they will need to sign firepower in is the attack, especially with the departure of Fletcher, as well as the potential of Paul Mullin leaving Wrexham.
Whenever Wrexham were chasing a game or found themselves level, Fletcher was the perfect player to bring on and ruffle a few feathers, and Parkinson will need someone to replicate that.
Wrexham will no doubt recruit heavily this season, but the role of a super-sub in Parkinson’s side cannot be underestimated – the decision to dismiss Fletcher in the first place hopefully suggests that a successor can easily be located.
