Will Boyle stars for Shrewsbury Town
Boyle has struggled for Shrewsbury at times this season, including being shown a red card in a 4-0 defeat back in August.
The Shrews were relegated from League One last term and face the prospect of dropping down to the National League in 2025/26.
They are 22nd in the fourth tier and have won just two league matches all season.
But one of those victories came over the weekend when they beat Paul Mullin’s former club, Cambridge United, 2-0.
Boyle scored Shrewsbury’s second of the day and as per the EFL’s official website, was the highest-rated player in League Two from the most recent round of games (9.3).
They wrote: “Shrewsbury’s stand-in captain Will Boyle takes top spot after a huge display in their 2-0 home win over Cambridge. The centre-back scored with a towering header from a Sam Clucas corner, adding to his 14 clearances, eight aerial duels won, and three tackles in a dominant all round effort.
“Boyle’s leadership was key as Shrewsbury secured their first home league win in eight months and took an important step away from the bottom of the league.”

What Phil Parkinson said about Will Boyle leaving Wrexham
Boyle joined Wrexham from Huddersfield Town in 2023 and made 24 appearances when they won promotion from League Two.
However, a combination of injuries and competition for places saw the centre-back fall heavily out of favour in 2024/25.
He made just three appearances last term, none of which were in the league. Parkinson commented on Boyle leaving Wrexham over the summer.
The manager said: “Boyley is another player who had a disrupted season through injury. He didn’t contribute as much as he would have liked but he has been a great lad to have around and we wish him all the best at his new club.”
