Ben Foster has given his verdict after Wrexham let another player leave the Racecourse Ground.

When the transfer window closed on Monday, a total of 20 players had left Wrexham in the last few months.

Among the more high-profile names to depart were Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer and Steven Fletcher.

But there were still several other previously key players who have now been deemed surplus to requirements following promotion to the Championship.

Three-time promotion winner Tom O’Connor has been sent out on loan to Peterborough United this week.

Most recently, after the transfer deadline had passed, Eoghan O’Connell’s Wrexham contract was terminated.

Ben Foster on Eoghan O’Connell leaving Wrexham

The centre-back missed out on Wrexham’s 24-man Championship squad and has now departed for free.

Club chief Humphrey Ker sent a message to O’Connell, dedicating an Instagram post to the defender.

Now, former Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster has taken to social media to react to the centre-back leaving.

Foster helped the Dragons win promotion out of the National League and continues to keep close tabs on his ex-side.

Upon hearing the news of O’Connell leaving, the former shot-stopper commented on Wrexham’s Instagram post.

He wrote: “Eoghan, what an unbelievable man.”

Could more players leave Wrexham

After their Championship squad list was confirmed, a total of five players were left out.

O’Connell was one, with the injured quartet of Jay Rodriguez, Ollie Rathbone, Andy Cannon and Danny Ward also omitted.

As they only named 24 players, Wrexham can still register one of those stars when they return from injury.

It seems pretty clear that when he’s fit again, Rathbone will be the first name back in the team.

But that does raise questions about the futures of Rodriguez and Cannon, who may wish to follow O’Connell and leave for nothing to find a new club.
