Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac have had the chance to expand their footballing portfolio in the last four or so years.

Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds became Wrexham owners in 2021 following a £2m takeover from the club’s Supporters Trust.

Mac and Reynolds invested in Club Necaxa in April 2024 and have since helped them launch their own Welcome to Wrexham documentary spin-off, which aired for the first time this month.

Meanwhile, the North American duo invested in La Equidad in 2025 in a deal worth around £24.5m.

Earlier this year, Reynolds was also linked with a chance to become involved with another team he has a long-standing love for.

Reynolds was looking at Vancouver Whitecaps as an investment, with a £300m fee mentioned when it was reported earlier this year.

Wrexham faced Vancouver in a pre-season friendly in 2024 during their trip to North America.

Reynolds, who grew up watching the MLS team, stated at the time that it was a moment he’d never forget, saying in the latest season of Welcome to Wrexham, ‘Wrexham playing the Vancouver Whitecaps was one of those pinch-me moments that as long as I live, will never forget’.

While the actor has not invested in his local team, they are excelling during the ongoing 2025 MLS season.

At present, they sit second in the Western Conference, one point behind San Diego FC with a game in hand.

They have accumulated 42 points so far this term, which is only 11 away from their all-time record for most points in a single campaign.

Vancouver managed 53 points in 2015, meaning they will need to win four of their remaining fixtures to earn a further 12 and break their record.

They have a further 11 games to try and do so in 2025, and given their form so far this year, it seems all but inevitable that it will happen.

Every team Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac looked at before buying Wrexham

Before buying Wrexham, Reynolds and Mac looked at purchasing several other teams.

All of these were in the United Kingdom and Ireland, with some faring much better than others since.

The sides looked at were Shamrock Rovers, Aldershot Town, Hartlepool United, and Carlisle United.

Shamrock Rovers could win the Irish Premier Division this season, while Carlisle have just been relegated to the National League with former Wrexham player Aaron Hayden.
