Wrexham snapped up Dominic Hyam on transfer deadline day as Phil Parkinson pulled off a late raid on Blackburn Rovers.
Wrexham have revamped Phil Parkinson’s defensive options over the summer transfer window.
13 new signings joined Wrexham before the transfer deadline, with goalkeeper Reuben Egan arriving on Wednesday.
Three of Wrexham’s summer additions were central defenders, with Conor Coady, Callum Doyle and Dominic Hyam all arriving.
Eoghan O’Connell has now been let go, Will Boyle joined Shrewsbury Town, and Thomas O’Connor headed to Peterborough United on deadline day.
Wrexham’s defensive refresh is complete, so let’s take a look at new signing Hyam after his late deadline day move.

Who is Wrexham signing Dominic Hyam?
Hyam hails from Leuchars in Scotland and began his footballing career with Reading.
The 29-year-old defender signed a first professional deal in 2013, but was never given a first-team opportunity by the Royals.
Loan spells with Hemel Hempstead, Basingstoke Town, Dagenham and Redbridge, Portsmouth and Aldershot Town failed to take Hyam any closer to first-team action with Reading.
Coventry City took a chance on Hyam in 2017, handing him a chance to play League Two football.
Hyam seized that opportunity and hasn’t looked back since, playing his part in two promotion-winning campaigns at Coventry.
2022 saw Hyam move on to Blackburn Rovers, with the Coventry Telegraph claiming that the deal was worth around £2.5million with add-ons.
Hyam departed Coventry with almost 200 appearances to his name, and he was similarly reliable for Blackburn, racking up more than 130 appearances in three years at Ewood Park.
Hyam even played against Wrexham in 2024, securing a 4-1 win over Phil Parkinson’s side in an FA Cup clash.
Despite being a quality Championship defender for the last six seasons, Hyam has only picked up one Scotland cap to this point.

How Dominic Hyam’s exit has been received at Blackburn Rovers
Hyam was a crucial player for Rovers, especially given a lack of defensive depth even before his exit.
Blackburn are now considering signing Craig Dawson to replace Hyam, with Valerien Ismael limited to free agent additions.
Hyam’s exit has not gone down well with Rovers fans, and BBC Radio Lancashire’s Andy Bayes has summed it up well.
Bayes noted that Wrexham snapping up Hyam was ‘the biggest of blows’, highlighting that he was a crucial player at Ewood Park, but Rovers cashed in rather than losing him for nothing in 2026.
“It was 23:00 before Dom Hyam’s move to Wrexham was announced, and that was the biggest of blows,” wrote Bayes.
“A first-choice centre back, a model pro, 50 consecutive Championship games where he played every minute of them. Hyam didn’t rock the boat to go. It was another case of a player reaching the final season of his contract and his employer cashing in to avoid letting him walk for free next summer.
“It is a gamble of sizeable proportions, particularly without a ready-made replacement coming in,” he added.
Wrexham can certainly feel confident that Hyam will make a big impact this season, with the defender able to play anywhere across Parkinson’s back three.
