Wrexham said goodbye to Jack Marriott last week as the striker completed a permanent move to League One side Reading.

Wrexham ended the summer transfer window on Monday with 13 new signings on board.

Parkinson finalised three signings on the final day of the window, with Ben Sheaf the first to join Wrexham from Coventry City.

Issa Kabore and Dominic Hyam completed the business, arriving from Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers respectively.

Wrexham also completed exits, with Thomas O’Connor joining Peterborough United before Jacob Mendy joined him at the Posh.

George Evans also left Wrexham as he joined Burton Albion after having his contract terminated by mutual consent.

Jack Marriott could star in Wrexham-style documentary series

Last Tuesday saw Jack Marriott complete a permanent move to Reading, with the striker signing a three-year deal.

Wrexham signed Marriott in January 2024, and he enjoyed a blistering start to last season before suffering an injury blow.

Wrexham allowed Marriott to leave for good last week, with Parkinson deciding to move on with other attackers.

Ryan Reynolds said an emotional goodbye to Marriott, and the striker’s move to Reading may actually see him experience something very similar to his time with Wrexham.

City AM reported in recent days that Reading have been approached by ‘several production companies’ with a view to creating a ‘Welcome to Wrexham’-style documentary series.

‘Welcome to Wrexham’ has been an enormous success for Wrexham, generating worldwide interest in the club while providing a great platform for commercial income.

A deal with Reading hasn’t yet been tied up, but American owner Rob Couhig has been told that the Royals’ journey away from near-bankruptcy could be ‘compelling’ viewing.

Marriott is no stranger to the TV cameras covering every move behind the scenes, and may feel very comfortable with the setup if Reading go ahead with the plans.

Jack Marriott will be a threat in League One

Marriott drops back into League One again, and Reading will have confidence in him scoring goals at that level.

The 30-year-old scored six times in 26 League One games for Wrexham last season, though only one came after his injury.

Marriott previously hit 13 goals in 43 League One games for Fleetwood Town, as well as four goals in 21 outings for Peterborough United.

The best season of Marriott’s career also came in League One, racking up 27 goals in 44 appearances in the 2017-18 campaign.

Marriott won’t play a part in Wrexham’s Championship journey, but he could get right back on the goal trail with Reading.
