Wrexham have a long and varied list of former players, and one of their former hitmen has now returned to the Football League after spending three years playing in Scotland.
The list of Wrexham players continues to grow in quality. Just a few years ago, Wrexham surprised everyone by signing Paul Mullin, but even he has now fallen out of favour, being replaced by the likes of Joshua Windass and Ryan Hardie, who both scored double-figure goals in the Championship last season.
As Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac’s side continue to rise at the Football League, so too does the quality of players that Wrexham can sign.
That’s evident in recent rumours that Wrexham have made an approach to sign Christian Eriksen following his release by Manchester United.
And just this week, Wrexham have signed Lewis O’Brien in a club record deal worth £5m. He arrives as the sixth summer signing at the Racecourse this summer, with fans quickly gaining confidence ahead of the new campaign.

Former Wrexham star Louis Moult joins new club
Ten years ago last season, Louis Moult joined Wrexham from Nuneaton Town, and in one season with the Dragons he scored an incredible 23 goals in 51 total games including 16 in 39 Conference Premiership games, helping the club to the FA Trophy final in 2015.
His one season at the Racecourse earned him a move to Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership, and in 98 games for the Scottish side he scored an impressive 50 goals. During the 2017/18 season Moult returned to the Football League with Preston North End in the Championship, but in three-and-a-bit seasons with the Lilywhites, Moult couldn’t make it stick with eight goals in 40 total games for the club.
Then came a stint at Burton Albion before a return to Scotland, first on loan with Motherwell and then at Dundee United where he regained his form. In 53 games for Dundee United he scored 23 goals including 20 in the 2023/24 Scottish Championship season in which Dundee earned promotion.
Now aged 33, Moult is back in England and back in the Football League playing for Crewe Alexandra in League Two.
Where have this summer’s released Wrexham players ended up?
At the end of last season, Wrexham released eight first-team players, including some big names like Steven Fletcher.
Wrexham fans wanted Fletcher to stay after the veteran striker scored eight goals in League One last season. But there’s no doubting that Hardie and Windass are an upgrade. Fletcher remains without a club, whilst Mark Howard has signed for Salford City in a recent deal.
Elsewhere, Sam Dalby joined Bolton Wanderers after his impressive stint on loan at Dundee United last time round.
Others, like Brad Foster, has joined Ross County, and Harry Dean has signed for Bala Town. Jordan Davies, Josh Adam, and Liam Hall all remain without clubs.
And there are a number of Wrexham players out of contract in 2026, including club captain James McClean, Jack Marriott, Matty James and more.
