Wrexham have been very active in the last 24 hours or so, making some big decisions for the club’s future.

It has been a very quiet January for the Red Dragons so far, with very little activity in the opening three weeks.

However, Wrexham firmly kicked into gear on Friday with a lot of big announcements made by the club.

After much waiting, fans were finally treated to a signing, with Ryan Longman joining from Hull City in a £500,000 deal.

Meanwhile, the club made some big decisions regarding players already at the Racecourse Ground this season.

Sam Dalby will remain on loan at Dundee United for the rest of 2024/25, while Jack Marriott signed a new Wrexham contract, keeping him in Wales until 2026.

Shortly after Marriott, the League One giants confirmed an extension for left-back Jacob Mendy.

Wrexham hand Jacob Mendy new contract

Mendy has only made four League One appearances so far this season, notching just 93 minutes of action across said ties.

He was out of contract at the end of the current campaign and was previously named as one of the nine players who could leave Wrexham in January.

However, the club have now confirmed via their official website that Mendy has signed a new deal until the end of 2025/26 with the option of an extra year.

On signing his new contract, the full-back said: “I’m really happy here, I love it here and all of the people have been nice to me.

“I’m delighted to stay here, and I really appreciate all of the people that believe in me, and I can’t wait to play and hopefully do well for the team.”

Wrexham have given Jacob Mendy a lifeline

Given his very limited minutes this season, it seemed obvious the 28-year-old was going to leave the club for free in the summer.

This would have been a big blow for Mendy, who had such a promising start to his career, which began when he was signed to Atletico Madrid’s academy.

Now though, it seems, especially with the option of an extra year, the left-back is firmly in Wrexham’s long-term plans going forward.

It may also mean Mendy is given more first-team chances in the Red Dragons’ side going forward because if Phil Parkinson didn’t want to use him, handing him a new contract does seem pretty odd.

Mendy previously excelled in League Two and now he will hopefully be given a chance to shine in the higher tiers.
