Jack Marriott fails to surpass a Paul Mullin Wrexham record as Reading beaten 2-1 by Cardiff City

Jack Marriott could have surpassed a Paul Mullin Wrexham record when his Reading team faced Cardiff City over the weekend.

Like Paul Mullin, Marriott left the Racecourse Ground during the 2025 summer transfer window.

Wrexham sold the striker to Reading for an undisclosed fee, and he’s been in prolific form since his exit.

The Royals played the Red Dragons’ Welsh rivals on October 18, and Marriott could have surpassed Mullin if he had scored.

Jack Marriott had to score when Reading played Cardiff City

Of all the strikers to leave Wrexham this summer, none have been in better form than Marriott.

The 31-year-old had scored a staggering five goals in his previous five League One appearances before Cardiff.

Even Mullin, who is widely regarded as a Wrexham legend, never bettered such a run during his four years in North Wales.

He did score five in a row on two occasions, but never managed to score in six consecutive games.

Sadly, Marriott also failed to achieve that impressive feat as he blanked when Reading lost 2-1 to Wrexham’s upcoming opponents, Cardiff.
