Wrexham are gearing up for their first season in the Championship since the competition was rebranded.
The Red Dragons made history at the end of 2024/25 when they beat Charlton Athletic 3-0 to secure second place in League One.
Since then, a lot has been made of how Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds’ club could fare in the 2025/26 Championship season.
Troy Deeney gave a mixed assessment of Wrexham but did back them for a top-half finish.
Mark Howard has assessed the Dragons’ Championship chances as well, saying, “The Championship is going to be a very tough task and I think everyone at the club is very understanding of that.
“But obviously with winning it breeds momentum and obviously Wrexham have got the know-how staff and I must credit the manager [Phil Parkinson] for the type of squad that he does put together,
“He gives everyone a chance and we all know everyone will fight for each other and you don’t have to play well every game because you just have to fight tooth and nail until that final minute.”
Now, wing-back James McClean has commented on Wrexham’s chances of winning promotion again.

James McClean on Wrexham winning promotion again
No side had managed three promotions in a row when starting in the fifth tier of higher prior to Wrexham.
A fourth promotion on the spin would be another huge achievement for the club, and McClean has commented on that happening recently, as per The Irish News, saying he wouldn’t put it past the club to do the ‘unthinkable’.
He said: “We’re on a roll at the minute, momentum is like a steam train, the buzz around the place is brilliant.
“From our point of view it’s the same as every year. We’ll go into the season with people telling us ‘that this can’t be done’ and ‘that can’t be done’ and ‘this is a step too far’, but with Wrexham it’s the old fairytale story and let’s see how we get on.
“We were told two in a row would have been tough, three in a row would be impossible, look four in a row is just non-existent and it won’t happen. We’ve done the previous ones, so I wouldn’t put it past us doing the unthinkable as it’s called.”

James McClean praises Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney
The Dragons’ rise began in 2021 when Reynolds and McElhenney bought the club for £2m.
Wrexham are worth over £100m now, with their owners eyeing further investment via a potential £350m stake sale.
On the North American duo, McClean added: “Rob and Ryan are 100 per cent part of it, but they are very clever men.
“They are part of it to a certain extent, they obviously don’t get involved with team affairs, they leave that to the managers, but to have owners involved as they are in the right way it’s class.
“There are no words to describe the impact that they’ve had and the praise they deserve, because it’s absolutely above and beyond.”
