Josh Adam surely nearing Wrexham chance after being spotted at Harrogate Town

Wrexham have continued to add to Phil Parkinson’s squad outside of the transfer window, but that brings its own challenges.

Wrexham did some fine work over the summer transfer window, adding eight new faces to Phil Parkinson’s squad.

Parkinson thanked Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds for signing Arthur Okonkwo but Wrexham bolstered all over the pitch.

Wrexham have even kept striking deals with the window closed, adding three free agents to Parkinson’s ranks.

The most recent signings were Matty James and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, landing the duo on free transfers.

Midfielder James helps cover for the injured George Evans whilst Bodvarsson offers another experienced striker with Jack Marriott and Steven Fletcher both out.

Josh Adam surely nearing Wrexham debut

Before those deals, Wrexham actually signed somebody at the other end of the experience scale.

James and Bodvarsson are 33 and 32 respectively but Josh Adam has yet to kick a ball in senior football.

20-year-old midfielder Adam joined Wrexham for training in August having left Manchester City over the summer.

Wrexham signed Adam permanently in September, handing him a one-year deal with the option of a second year.

Almost two months on from Adam’s arrival, Wrexham fans are yet to see him in action.

Adam appeared in a Central League game against Preston North End last month and was seemingly in contention against Harrogate Town on Sunday.

Wrexham posted a video of Parkinson’s squad arriving for action against Harrogate and Adam was spotted with his teammates.

The lineups emerged and Adam wasn’t even on the bench as Wrexham went on to lose 1-0 and crash out of the FA Cup.

Adam’s presence with the squad suggests that a debut may not be too far away though with Parkinson attempting to bed him into the squad and get him used to the matchday preparations of a first team game.

EFL Trophy offers ideal chance for Josh Adam

Wrexham signing James on a free transfer spoke volumes.

This was another midfield addition and whilst he is closer to Evans’ profile than Adam is, it was clear that Parkinson didn’t quite feel that the Scot was ready for League One action.

That means a debut may come in other competitions and with the FA Cup now gone, the EFL Trophy offers the ideal opportunity.

Wrexham have already qualified out of the EFL Trophy group after wins over Salford City and Wolverhampton Wanderers Under-21’s.

The upcoming game against Port Vale is fairly inconsequential for Wrexham and this may be the prime opportunity to give Adam a chance.

Seeing Adam around the first team on Sunday was certainly a nice sight and we would hope to see him shining in a Wrexham shirt soon enough.
