Josh Windass has signed for Wrexham on a three-year deal having left championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday as a free agent.
Josh Windass becomes the fifth summer signing at Wrexham of this window and for many he’s the most exciting signing so far.
Phil Parkinson has signed a striker with bags of Championship experience with Windass scoring 53 goals for Sheffield Wednesday during his five years at the club including 13 in the last Championship campaign.
He joins former Rangers teammate Ryan Hardie at the club and both players will definitely bolster Parkinson’s striker options ahead of next season.
There are also rumours that Wrexham will pay £10million to sign a new striker this summer along with names like Kiefer Moore being linked with a move from Sheffield United to Wrexham.
Windass though may well be the number one striker for Wrexham going into next season. Already though the striker may have ambitions for life after Wrexham.

Wrexham striker Josh Windass has already outlined his MLS ambitions
During his time at Sheffield Wednesday, Windass had links to multiple other clubs. Last summer he was a target for rival Championship teams such as Derby County and Birmingham City, whilst in the past he was also closely linked with a move to South America at one point.
Reports revealed how Windass was close to joining Argentinian side Atletico Talleres in 2024, whilst separate reports linked Windass with a move to Brazilian side Santos. Speaking last year though, Windass revealed that he wishes to play in the MLS one day in the future.
Windass was quoted as saying: “Yeah of course… In the future, I have no doubt I’ll play in MLS at some point.“

Things can change very quickly at Wrexham
Back in 2021, on July 23rd, Paul Mullin signed for Wrexham from League Two Cambridge United. The striker dropped down from League Two to move to National League Wrexham and the rest is history.
At the time, he also signed a three-year contract and in Mullin’s first interview as a Wrexham player, he explained how he was excited for the future and how he wanted to be a part of the club’s project for at least three years, if not more.
Mullin said: “They’ve [the owners] got an idea of where they want to be and I want to be a part of that journey, so signing here for three years just then tells everybody that I want to be a part of it for the next three years at least, if not longer.”
The striker’s exit this summer is an example of the casualties that can come with Wrexham’s rapid rise up the Football League and the likes of Windass could well be one in the future who suffers the same fate.
Whilst Rob Mac doesn’t want to consolidate in the Championship, Windass is very much a Championship striker. He’s never played in the Premier League before and if Wrexham were to achieve promotion to the Premier League during Windass’s time at the club, he’d no doubt fall down the pecking order rather quickly.
So an MLS move for Windass could well come in the next three years, potentially sooner, if Parkinson can guide the club towards the Premier League.
