Wrexham will know by May 17 if they will be able to sign one of their long-time transfer targets for free.
Wrexham have already been linked with a number of players recently, including a few who were mooted in January.
Patrick Bamford is of interest to the Red Dragons, while Ryan Hardie has been linked to the club yet again.
Meanwhile, the future of one player the club has tried to sign in the previous two windows will be decided very soon.
Phil Parkinson has wanted Michael Smith of Sheffield Wednesday in the last two windows, making a big push in January.

EFL rule on out-of-contract players will interest Wrexham
Wrexham held talks to sign Smith before the summer transfer deadline, but no move came to pass and he remained in Yorkshire.
Interest in the centre-forward then returned in the winter when the club were once again on the lookout for new numbers nines.
Humphrey Ker revealed that ‘loads of effort’ was put into Wrexham signing Smith, but again, he remained with the Owls.
However, after two windows without success, the Wednesday hitman is due to become a free agent on June 30th, 2025.
But Wrexham will not have to wait that long to learn if Smith will be available to sign for free or not.
This is because EFL rules mean that clubs must notify players whose deals are due to run out of contract decisions by the third Saturday in May (17th).
Wednesday now have just over 11 days to decide if they will offer the 33-year-old a new deal and if they do not, he will be on the market for nothing.
Smith has been called ‘brilliant’ by one former manager and ended 2024/25 with eight goals and four assists in the Championship.

Wrexham players out of contract
The rule also means Wrexham will have to make some decisions of their own by May 17.
Right now, there are three Wrexham players out of contract in June 2025 who don’t have options for an extra year.
- Eoghan O’Connell
- Steven Fletcher
- Mark Howard
- Liam Hall (Option for a further year)
- Brad Foster (Option for a further year)
- Josh Adam (Option for a further year)
Steven Fletcher hinted at a new contract last month, but an official decision is yet to be announced.
