Loan striker on whether he will return to Wrexham in January after Phil Parkinson comments

Wrexham are heading towards the January transfer window with Phil Parkinson no doubt keen to add some firepower to his squad.

Wrexham have suffered frustrating results in back-to-back weekends as 2024 comes to an end.

Phil Parkinson watched on as Wrexham conceded late on at home to Cambridge United, only managing a 2-2 draw.

Wrexham were then leading 1-0 at Bristol Rovers before again being pegged back late in the day.

Four points dropped from two games is a real disappointment for Wrexham, especially against two teams at the wrong end of the League One table.

Parkinson may look towards the transfer window in January with Wrexham potentially ready to add new faces.

Sam Dalby on Wrexham future

Wrexham want another striker according to one report with a proven Championship forward on the wish list.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds may be ready to splash the cash and Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford is thought to be a Wrexham target.

Parkinson has though hinted at recalling loan players in January and many Wrexham fans will have thought of Sam Dalby.

Wrexham loaned Dalby to Dundee United on deadline day, seemingly bringing an end to his time at the STōK Cae Ras.

Dalby has been in sensational form in Scotland, smashing eight goals in 15 games for Dundee United.

Dalby has already ruled out returning to Wrexham in January but has now answered those questions once again.

Speaking to The Courier, Dalby admitted that he has had no contact with Wrexham about returning in January.

Dalby noted that Wrexham are still going strong without him and has received ‘no indication’ that Wrexham want him back in January.

“No, none at all. Not so far,” said Dalby.

“They are doing really well themselves and they have a lot of good players there. I guess we will find out in the near future but so far I have had no indication,” he added.

Sam Dalby on Dundee United stay

Dalby has been brilliant at Tannadice and an extended stay can’t be ruled out.

Dundee United boss Jim Goodwin wants to keep Dalby but fears that he will be priced out of a move given the striker’s brilliant form.

Dalby has now admitted that he would like to stay at Dundee United too, having been made to feel so important at the club.

That is probably a welcome change from being a squad player at Wrexham but Dalby just wants to focus on his form right now.

“Would I like to stay? Yes, definitely,” said Dalby.

“It’s nice to hear the manager say he wants to keep me. That’s the sort of thing that has made me feel important and at home here.

“Would I be happy to open talks? Yes, of course.

“Obviously I don’t know what my situation will be but at the minute I am just trying to keep my run of form going and trying not to think too much about the future.

“At the end of the day, I can’t really control it yet. We have had a good start to the season, the team has been doing well and I have scored a few goals.

“I try to help the team as much as possible and I think I have done that,” he added.

We would be surprised to see Dalby return in January and believe Wrexham will be going in a different direction, potentially freeing up Dalby to move elsewhere in 2025.
