Sam Dalby plays down suggestions of Wrexham return in January as loan spell reaps rewards

Wrexham have some big decisions to make in attack as Phil Parkinson heads towards the January transfer window.

Wrexham sit second in the League One table ahead of facing Lincoln City in League One on Tuesday night.

Saturday’s win over Exeter City leaves Wrexham in a strong position but attacking decisions will be required come January.

New signing Jon Dadi Bodvarsson is only under contract until January and it’s unclear whether his short-term deal will be extended.

Phil Parkinson has praised Steven Fletcher but he may be coming towards the end of his Wrexham career with his contract expiring in the summer.

Paul Mullin’s form has been a concern and Wrexham are looking to sign a striker with real Championship experience in January.

Sam Dalby on Wrexham return

Wrexham will have decisions to make on the strikers at Parkinson’s disposal but one player loaned out by Wrexham is on fire.

Sam Dalby joined Dundee United on transfer deadline day with Wrexham happy to let him move out on loan.

Dalby has been on fire recently, scoring five goals in his last six appearances for Dundee United.

Dalby even eclipsed Steven Fletcher by scoring at Ibrox against Rangers – something Fletcher never did in his days up in Scotland.

The 24-year-old is in blistering form right now and some have wondered whether he could be recalled to help the Wrexham push.

There would even be scope for Wrexham to recall Dalby and sell him, capitalising on his strong form before his contract ends next summer.

Dalby has now told The Courier that he plans to stay with Dundee United for the entire season and is focusing solely on life at Tannadice.

“I’m here for the season, and focusing game-by-game on helping the team every time I play,” said Dalby.

Dalby has surely played final Wrexham game

Wrexham need goals and Dalby is on fire right now, so we can understand some wondering whether he would make an impact.

Wrexham ultimately let Dalby go for a reason though; he scored just one League Two goal last season and was well down the pecking order entering the season.

Parkinson clearly felt that Dalby just wasn’t going to play regularly enough and made the right call to let him go and star elsewhere.

Dalby’s deal expires in the summer and there is unlikely to be a new deal on offer despite his strong form in Scotland.

Dalby has put himself in the shop window for other clubs but Wrexham fans would certainly support him staying with Dundee United and continuing his superb form at Tannadice for the long-term.
