Wrexham have bolstered Phil Parkinson’s squad in this January transfer window but have also let two players move on.

The January transfer window is almost done and Wrexham’s business appears to be wrapped up.

Phil Parkinson wanted signings this month and has been able to add three new faces to his promotion-chasing Wrexham squad.

Wide man Ryan Longman joined Wrexham from Hull City, completing a £500,000 move to the STōK Cae Ras.

Wrexham then snapped up Sam Smith from Reading before adding another striker just hours later, signing Jay Rodriguez from Burnley.

It looks like Wrexham’s incoming business is now finished with Parkinson freshening up his squad in recent weeks.

Burton Albion boss on James Jones deal

Wrexham have let two senior players leave the club in the January window.

Striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson moved on as he joined League One rivals Burton Albion on a free transfer.

Bodvarsson has made a huge impact for Burton in his opening weeks at the club and has now been joined by a very familiar face.

Burton snapped up midfielder James Jones from Wrexham on Friday, securing the Scot in a permanent move.

Jones has been through injury problems this season and a departure will have come as no surprise to anybody.

Jones came off the bench to make his Burton debut against Barnsley on Saturday, with Brewers boss Gary Bowyer now commenting on the move.

Speaking on Burton’s official website, Bowyer highlights that Jones brings something different to his engine room with ‘bite and physicality’.

Bowyer praised Jones for his debut performance and added that Rob McElhenney’s emotional message to Jones sums up his character.

“Starting with Jones, for one he’s a really great lad, the owner of Wrexham (Rob McElhenney) sent a heartfelt message on Twitter so that tells you how nice of a lad he is,” said Bowyer.

“He gives us something different that I don’t feel we’ve got in the midfield in terms of his bite and physicality, but he can also pop up with a goal as well. He’s also experienced and he’s knows the game, which I thought stood out when he came on.

Jones and Bodvarsson will return to Wrexham

It’s great to see Bodvarsson making such a big impact for Burton and Jones may well follow suit.

The Brewers have given themselves a real shot at League One survival under Bowyer and Jones will look to play a major role.

The move for Jones and Bodvarsson mean that they are in line to actually play against Wrexham in April.

Wrexham host Burton Albion on April 5 having beaten Burton away from home earlier in the campaign.

Parkinson will be looking for a double but his former duo Jones and Bodvarsson will not be handing out any favours upon their returns to Wrexham.
