Wrexham have just come out of a hectic period of games but will soon have enough one to deal with after Tuesday’s EFL Trophy postponement.

The festive period was a busy one for Wrexham.

Phil Parkinson’s side played on December 21, 26 and 29 before kicking off 2025 with games on January 1 and January 4.

Five points dropped across those five games was a decent record and Parkinson paid tribute to the resilience in the Wrexham squad.

There is now something of a break for Wrexham with no fixture until facing Shrewsbury Town on Thursday, January 16.

Wrexham’s trip to Reading this weekend had already been postponed, but Tuesday’s EFL Trophy clash with Port Vale was also scrapped.

Wrexham clash with Port Vale rescheduled

Wrexham’s trip to Port Vale was postponed due to adverse weather conditions and left Wrexham fans wondering just when the rescheduled game would even take place.

Other EFL Trophy games take place on Tuesday, January 14, but Wrexham’s clash with Shrewsbury just two days later meant the Port Vale clash was scheduled a week earlier than planned.

The EFL have now found a new date for Wrexham’s trip to Port Vale, with the new game taking place on Tuesday, February 4.

The game will kick off at 7pm, just as it was supposed to this Tuesday.

Wrexham have confirmed the news on X, but this fixture rescheduling only raises even more questions.

The official EFL website highlights that the quarter finals are set to begin on the week commencing February 3, with semi-finals beginning in the week commencing February 17.

Wrexham will effectively be a round behind when those quarter-final clashes take place and a win may mean three consecutive midweeks of EFL Trophy action in order to catch up.

Another busy period coming for Wrexham

That is hardly ideal for Wrexham and only creates another hectic period of games once this

Sky Sports rescheduled Wrexham games back in November, bizarrely moving games against Shrewsbury Town and Birmingham City to Thursday nights.

That has caused issues in terms of rescheduling games and even scheduling the initial Port Vale game in the first place.

DateOpponentTime (UK)
January 16Shrewsbury Town (A)8PM
January 23Birmingham City (H)8PM
January 28Stevenage (H)7:45PM
February 1Crawley Town (A)3PM
February 4Port Vale (A)7PM
February 8Leyton Orient (H)3PM
February 11/12Potential EFL Trophy quarter-finalTBD
February 15Northampton Town12:30PM
February 18/19Potential EFL Trophy semi-finalTBD
February 23Mansfield Town3PM

The rescheduling now means that Wrexham will face Birmingham on January 23, Stevenage on January 28, Crawley Town on February 1, Port Vale on February 4 and Leyton Orient on February 8.

When you add in potential EFL Trophy games either side of facing Northampton Town on February 15 and then the trip to Mansfield Town on February 23, Wrexham’s fixture list could be jam-packed.

There may be some flexibility in the EFL Trophy, as we have seen in recent weeks, but the games are piling up for Wrexham.

Parkinson’s men have just dealt with one busy period but another one is seemingly just around the corner once Wrexham players have rested up.
