Wrexham have secured a fourth signing in less than a week, having finalised a deal to sign midfielder Lewis O’Brien from Nottingham Forest.
Wrexham are just over two weeks away from kicking off the Championship season, and Phil Parkinson now has four new signings to bed in.
The last week has been a whirlwind of transfer activity with Liberato Cacace’s move from Empoli kicking off the business last week.
George Thomason followed on Monday, before Josh Windass joined Wrexham to make it a hat-trick of signings.
Parkinson added top Championship quality on Thursday evening as Wrexham confirmed the signing of Lewis O’Brien.
O’Brien has proven himself at Championship level with three different clubs, and is now ready to make a big impact after signing a three-year deal with Wrexham.

Nottingham Forest fans on Lewis O’Brien
O’Brien feels like a huge capture and arguably the biggest signing of the Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds era.
The 26-year-old has impressed for Huddersfield Town, Middlesbrough and Swansea City and now heads to the STōK Cae Ras to aid Wrexham’s Championship journey.
Wrexham fans are excited to see O’Brien join, believing that he will be a massive addition to Parkinson’s squad.
Swansea City supporters aren’t quite so enthusiastic, with many gutted to see O’Brien join Wrexham after his loan spell with the Swans.
The feeling from Nottingham Forest fans appears pretty clear, though, with supporters praising O’Brien despite his fairly brief spell in the Forest first team.
O’Brien joined Forest in 2022 and made just 13 league appearances before being loaned out four times and eventually sold.
Forest fans still have great things to say about O’Brien, though, suggesting that he is good enough to be a Premier League player in the lower reaches of the table.
Some feel that O’Brien was treated unfairly at Forest and simply found himself quickly phased out as the club accelerated in the Premier League.
Others suggested that O’Brien can help take Wrexham to the Premier League, believing that he is a ‘brilliant’ player and an ‘unreal’ signing.
- That’s a very good signing for a very good project, by the way. Good honest player at that level, hope he does well
- Unreal signing for you that. Never got a fair chance at Forest, but he’s a baller.
- Love this. He’ll fit into this team like a glove. Good luck Lewis & good luck Wrexham for the season ahead. See you in the Prem.
- Imo, he is good enough to be in a bottom 4-5 Prem team. Definitely good enough to be pushing at the top half of the Championship IF he has the players around him…
- Top, top player. Shame it never worked out with us. Look after him, guys, you’re gonna love him
- As a Forest fan, I can safely say you’ll be very happy with him, quality player who deserved more respect with us.
- Good Luck, Lewis. Shame how it went at Forest. Top quality Champ player
- Brilliant Championship player, build your team around him
- Didn’t play as much as we all hoped he might for Forest. Will be a top player for Wrexham. Very talented.
- You’ve got a gem there. Will become a fan favourite no doubt.
- You lot have got yourselves an absolute baller!! Never given a proper chance with us in the Prem, but I still believe he could have stepped up and been useful for us… he is lower prem quality, he’ll boss midfield in the Championship
- Top professional and he’ll tear it up in the Championship. Fantastic work rate and can boss any midfield. Cracking signing for you guys. Sadly never worked out at Forest due to us getting ahead of ourselves in the Prem!
- You’ve got a great player there for the Championship – even showed flashes in the Premier League
- You’ve got yourself an excellent Champ midfielder there. Great ball carrier who was sadly a victim of circumstance at Forest. Needed a fresh start, and I’m glad he’s got it at an upwardly mobile club where he can establish himself. Perfect signing for where Wrexham aspire to be.
- Great player and a shame it didn’t work out for him here at Forest. He will thrive more at a top-end Champ team like you will be, more than in a bottom 6 Prem team. Look after him, and I’ll look out for him in the Team of the Year
- Never worked at Forest, but this guy is a guaranteed top player in the Champ. Good luck Lewis
- Lewis is genuinely a top-end Championship player. Very tidy footballer. Unfortunately for him, Forest outgrew him far quicker than expected, but that takes nothing away from the player he is. Wrexham will love him
Wrexham can unleash Lewis O’Brien against Southampton
The new Championship season is just over two weeks away, and Parkinson will look to get O’Brien up to speed quickly.
Wrexham travel to take on Southampton on the opening weekend of the season, and O’Brien will surely play a key role.
The Sun’s Alan Nixon reported in June that Southampton wanted to sign O’Brien as they plot a route back to the Premier League.
Wrexham have won the race, though, and will now be gearing up to unleash O’Brien on the Saints as Parkinson chases an opening-day statement.
