Wrexham return to action on Saturday versus Rotherham United and one player has sent a message to Phil Parkinson ahead of the clash.

The Red Dragons are looking to climb back into the top two in League One for the first time in some months when they travel to Rotherham United.

One Wrexham legend can do Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds a favour in their push for promotion by seeing off Wycombe Wanderers this weekend.

Wycombe are two points above the Welsh outfit in the division right now and will join Birmingham City as one of the two teams to go up automatically as things stand.

So, it’s imperative that Wrexham get their home form back on track and come away with three points against Rotherham United this weekend.

Ahead of the tie, Phil Parkinson has a number of big calls to make when it comes to his team selection.

Wrexham ace want Phil Parkinson to play him in League One

Wrexham fans hit out at Jay Rodrigiuez during the win over Huddersfield Town, and it may be time for Parkinson to give another striker, perhaps Paul Mullin, a chance to partner Sam Smith.

Meanwhile, exactly who will start in the wing-back positions remains to be seen, given that Sebastian Revan has shone in James McClean’s absence and Ryan Longman has impressed when featuring ahead of Ryan Barnett.

The main area of concern for Parkisnon, however, is central midfielder now Andy Cannon is injured long-term and George Dobson appeared to be hurt during the midweek victory.

After Cannon’s blow was confirmed, we suggested that George Evans could start for Wrexham in the league going forward.

Now, as per Leader Live, Evans has sent a ‘desperate’ message to Parkinson about getting back into the team.

He said: “It’s been a bit of a journey but I’m fit now.  I played a couple of 90 minutes in the EFL Trophy, I’ve available and ready to play, and hopefully there to make a difference as well.

“When you get an opportunity, you need to make sure you’re ready because everyone knows that the competition in the squad is high and we need to push each other because we want to achieve things

“There’s a good chunk of the season left and I’m desperate to get my teeth back into it. I want to get back in the team and really push on and help the boys.”

When does George Evans Wrexham contract expire

The future of Evans at Wrexham is an interesting situation. He played a key role in their promotion from League Two in 2023/24.

But in part due to injury and competition for places, the midfielder has only notched 105 minutes of action across five League One appearances this term.

The injuries to Cannon and potentially Dobson could open the door for his return, but there’s always a chance Parkinson simply opts for a midfield trio of Ollie Rathbone, Matty James, and Elliot Lee.

Dobson is under contract until 2026 with an option of a further year, so he will hopefully be given another chance to prove himself in the league before any decisions on his long-term future are made.
