Wrexham legend Paul Mullin has produced magic in his recent Wigan Athletic performance, with Latics boss Ryan Lowe offering him a huge compliment.

Paul Mullin left Wrexham on loan this summer, joining League One side Wigan Athletic.

It was clear that Mullin was not set to be part of Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham plans, which has led to him getting the opportunity to shine in League One before he is potentially deemed worthy to step up to the Championship.

It has been a topsy-turvy start to life at the DW Stadium for the Wrexham legend, but Mullin managed to bag his first goal against Rotherham United in the league.

He has been out of favour for the Latics so far this season, but Wigan Athletic boss Ryan Lowe took a chance on him to start against Lincoln City, and what he produced on the day left him absolutely jubilant.

Wrexham legend Paul Mullin receives praise for Wigan Athletic goal

Paul Mullin scored for Wigan Athletic against Lincoln City, making it two league goals so far for the Latics.

Despite Wigan’s difficulty in holding onto their lead, with the game finishing 2-2, Mullin still received praise from his boss for his moment of brilliance to give his side the lead.

“I thought we had a great start, and scored a fantastic goal,” said Lowe via the Wigan Athletic website.

“Sam (Tickle) caught it then we were away, and Mulls (Paul Mullin) goes down the other end, shows a bit of quality and scores.”

In typical Mullin fashion, the striker was able to bombard his way through on goal, where he made no mistake to strike it past the Lincoln City goalkeeper, getting the better of him in a 1v1 situation.

Paul Mullin deserves more faith from Ryan Lowe after Wigan Athletic goal

Paul Mullin has received a mixed reception from Wigan Athletic fans so far during his tenure, with some commenting that he is unable to hit the heights he had previously shown for Wrexham.

However, the clash with Lincoln City proved that Mullin is still able to show his quality in front of goal. As long as he gets the faith and service required, he can be relied upon to come up with goals.

The Wrexham loanee has been out of favour predominantly so far this season, with either Dara Costelloe or Christian Saydee getting the nod ahead of him. This Wigan pair only have two goals between them, equalling how much Mullin has contributed in the league by himself.

His showing against Lincoln City was surely enough to deserve another start and more faith from his manager.
