Wrexham are chasing another promotion, leaving Paul Mullin thinking about the club’s promotion out of the National League in 2022.

The end of another season is just weeks away and Wrexham are chasing yet another promotion.

Back-to-back promotions just isn’t enough for this Wrexham project under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.

A third promotion in a row has moved a step closer after Wrexham beat Blackpool 2-1 on Monday afternoon.

James McClean and Ollie Rathbone bagged the goals to give Wrexham the win – and a two point lead over Wycombe Wanderers.

Phil Parkinson enjoyed Wycombe’s defeat to Charlton Athletic, leaving Wrexham potentially just two games away from another promotion.

Paul Mullin looks back on Wrexham promotion

Wrexham fans have become to used to seeing these dashes towards promotion in recent years.

Ever since the McElhenney and Reynolds takeover in 2021, Wrexham have been challenging at the top end of each league.

The 2021-22 brought a play-off defeat to Grimsby Town, but Wrexham got over the line in 2023, securing promotion from the National League.

Tuesday marked two years since Wrexham secured promotion to League Two, beating Boreham Wood 3-1 at the STōK Cae Ras.

Paul Mullin scored twice that day, suitably firing Wrexham to promotion having enjoyed a prolific season.

Mullin is out of favour at Wrexham right now, but took to Instagram on Tuesday to look back on that promotion success.

‘Time flies… feels like yesterday’ said Mullin, accompanied with a photo of him celebrating with the Wrexham fans.

Mullin loved watching Wrexham’s win at Blackpool, but no doubt wishes he was out there with his teammates chasing another promotion – and celebrating with supporters once again.

Paul Mullin absence the only sad note from Wrexham push

As mentioned earlier, these promotion pushes have become standard fare at Wrexham.

The only real sad note this time around is that Mullin isn’t a part of it, unlike other years.

Mullin has been Wrexham’s goalscoring hero in recent years, but hasn’t made a league appearance since January.

Wrexham appear to be moving on without Mullin, and the striker may have already played his final game for the club.

Mullin posting that photo on Monday just shows how much those moments and this Wrexham fanbase really mean to him.

Sadly, Mullin seemingly won’t get to enjoy that moment again this season, though he will know that he has played a big role in this club’s rise no matter what happens next.
