Wrexham departures are continuing to flow on transfer deadline day.

Wrexham confirmed the loan departure of Thomas O’Connor to Peterborough United in a deal that will allow Issa Kabore and Dominic Hyam to join Phil Parkinson’s ranks.

Burton Albion are in talks with George Evans over a move to League One for the Wrexham midfielder and further exits could be on the cards in the final hours of the window.

Peterborough have also confirmed the signing of Jacob Mendy in their second deal from the Red Dragons and Parkinson has given his verdict on the Gambian international’s loan move.

Phil Parkinson thinks Jacob Mendy loan to Peterborough is a ‘fantastic’ opportunity

Speaking to the club’s official website, Parkinson has revealed his belief that a loan move to Peterborough is a ‘fantastic’ opportunity for Mendy.

Parkinson explained: “I’d like to wish Jacob all the best. He’s been a really good signing over the years for us, but the time is right for him to go and get his career started again and it’s a fantastic opportunity for him down at Peterborough United to go and do that.”

It was thought that Parkinson had performed a U-turn on Mendy after naming him in the starting line-up during Wrexham’s 3-2 win over Preston North End in the Carabao Cup.

However, after a number of injury problems in the last two seasons, the defender now has the chance to cement regular first-team football in League One.

Jacob Mendy’s incredible rise mirrors that of Wrexham

Mendy is a player that has been through it all with the Red Dragons. Signing from Boreham Wood in the summer of 2022, he is a player that has only ever known winning promotions with Wrexham.

He represented Gambia in the African Cup Of Nations during his time in North Wales and was a player who always gave his all for the team.

The 28-year-old will now be looking to prove that he can make a name for himself in the football league having spent the early part of his career in non-league.

Wrexham fans will wish Mendy all the best for his next chapter and will be sure to keep a close eye on his progress at Peterborough.
