Wrexham will be one of the more active clubs in the frantic final few days of the summer transfer window.

Phil Parkinson is still keen to add to his squad and Wrexham have made bids for three midfielders in an attempt to bolster options in the middle of the park.

Ryan Reynolds sent a heartfelt message to Jack Marriott following the forward’s transfer to Reading and he will not be the last to leave North Wales.

A number of Wrexham players could leave before the deadline as Parkinson whittles down his squad to 25, however, the manager could have just made a remarkable U-turn on one star that seemed to be heading for an exit.

Jacob Mendy set to stay at Wrexham despite interest from ‘several clubs’

Jacob Mendy is wanted by ‘several clubs’ on loan and after an injury-hit campaign last season, it was expected that he would depart Wrexham this summer.

However, Mendy started the club’s 3-2 victory over Preston at left wing-back and produced a solid performance.

According to BBC Sport, Mendy could now stay at the club beyond this transfer window to provide further depth to Parkinson’s squad.

Parkinson has labelled Mendy as ‘dangerous’ in the past and is a big fan of the 28-year-old having helped the club secure promotion from the National League to the Championship.

Mendy was an unexpected name on the team sheet for the Carabao Cup clash, however, with James McClean rested and Liberato Cacace injured, the Gambia international took his chance.

Sebastian Revan joined Burton Albion to open the door for Mendy to impress and he was full of energy and endeavour down the left flank.

With Wrexham now in the draw for the third round, Mendy will be hoping for further opportunities to show that he can be an unexpected weapon for the Red Dragons this campaign.

That opportunity is likely to come in the Carabao Cup but he will be looking to show that he can be trusted in the Championship fixtures too.
