The future of Paul Mullin at Wrexham has been called into question a lot over the course of the 2024/25 season.
Paul Mullin missed the beginning of the campaign with injury, seeing Jack Marriott and Ollie Palmer deployed as Phil Parkinson’s main striking duo.
Mullin returned to action after a few weeks, but the form of Marriott – five in 10 prior to his injury in October – meant the former struggled to break back into the starting eleven.
When he did, however, the 30-year-old was in poor form and, most importantly, had a hard time finding the back of the net.
With Wrexham in a tightly contested promotion battle and all of their centre-forwards, barring a 37-year-old Steven Fletcher, proving ineffective in front of goal, the Red Dragons opted to spend big in January.
Sam Smith signed in a record deal from Reading, while former Premier League star Jay Rodriguez arrived from Burnley.
That meant Wrexham had seven different centre-forward options at the back end of the 2025 winter window, and in turn, Mullin received transfer interest in late February.

What Phil Parkinson said about Wrexham selling Paul Mullin
Despite the Liverpool-born ace and Palmer being the subject of transfer interest, both players remained at the club.
However, neither has made an appearance in any of Wrexham’s last seven League One meetings, and as a result, Mullin’s future has been called into question.
He remains under contract until 2027, but several people, including Carlton Palmer, predict the Wrexham striker could be sold in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Losing one of their all-time record goal-scorers is likely to hurt fans, who were left upset at transfer speculation surrounding Mullin in late January/early February.
This is not the first time the former Cambridge United man’s future at the Racecourse has been called into question.
Speaking back in December 2021, following a prolific first six months in Wales from Mullin, Parkinson responded to claims the number nine could be sold and gave a defiant response, as per BBC Sport.
He said: “We’re not looking to lose any of our key players in January. It’s good to get a bit of speculation about our own players because it shows that they’re doing well.
“Mulls has made a significant contribution in the first few months of his Wrexham career.
“But he’s very committed to the cause and the project here and what the club’s all about.”

Wrexham would be wise to cash in on Paul Mullin
But while Parkinson was firmly against a Mullin sale four years ago, a lot has changed in that time.
Thanks in large part to the ‘Welcome to Wrexham‘ documentary, fans of the club have been able to form much deeper connections with their players.
Losing Mullin would be a big blow to supporters, but looking at a sale objectively, it does make sense.
He’s now, at the very best, a fifth-choice striker option who hasn’t made six of the last seven matchday squads in the league.
And of all Wrexham’s current centre-forwards, barring Sam Smith, who has just signed and is only 27, will likely fetch the most money from a sale.
He has longer contracts than Marriott, Palmer, and Rodriguez and is younger than the latter two of that trio.
As already mentioned, Parkinson has seven strikers on his books, and even with two places up for grabs each week, that is too many – especially if Wrexham want to sign another number nine in the summer, which they probably should.
