Phil Parkinson raves about ‘immense’ Wrexham player amid latest injury setback

Wrexham drew a blank at Stockport County on Saturday afternoon with Phil Parkinson no doubt concerned about his attacking situation.

Wrexham travelled to Edgeley Park on Saturday for another battle with Stockport County.

The two sides have fought it out for promotion from the National League and League Two in recent years but Wrexham came out on the losing side this time.

Louie Barry’s first-half goal handed Stockport the win with Wrexham unable to get back into the game.

County boss Dave Challinor has praised his side’s defending against Wrexham with Stockport facing just one shot on target.

This toothless showing is a concern and Wrexham will need to find a solution to these goalscoring issues.

Phil Parkinson delivers Steven Fletcher verdict

Wrexham are without Jack Marriott right now and Paul Mullin is yet to really get his season up and running.

Ollie Palmer has been a mainstay this season but hasn’t really been prolific whilst new signing Jon Dadi Bodvarsson is still finding sharpness.

The big blow has come with a setback for Steven Fletcher.

Fletcher picked up an injury concern in October with a knee problem emerging for the veteran Scot.

Phil Parkinson has now confirmed a setback for Fletcher and it’s unclear just when he will be back in first-team action for Wrexham.

Parkinson has now spoken to The Leader about Fletcher and branded him ‘immense’ for his impact off the bench this season.

Parkinson feels that Fletcher has really changed games for Wrexham when coming on as a substitute, highlighting that Wrexham are missing him.

“Jack was obviously top scorer with five goals in the early part of the season and Fletch has been immense for us off the bench, he has changed so many games, so you are going to miss strikers of that quality,” said Parkinson.

“They were two key players earlier in the season and it is going to affect you when you lose them,” he added.

Fletcher can make big impact when he returns

Wrexham have scored just four goals in the last five League One games and are seeking a spark in the final third.

Fletcher has only scored once this season but it’s clear that Parkinson values his impact when available.

The 37-year-old is a vastly experienced performer and has scored goals at Championship and even Premier League level in years gone by.

Fletcher is coming to the end of his career and has started just one League One game this term, but his experience and know-how in the final third could be invaluable.

Wrexham will hope to have Fletcher back soon but will be mindful of rushing him back as Parkinson attempts to find an attacking solution.
