Phil Parkinson says Wrexham will need to make ‘tough decisions’ in transfer window amid ‘mind blowing’ claim

Wrexham are set to ply their trade in the Championship next season and Phil Parkinson has already been discussing preparations.

Wrexham won promotion on April 26, becoming the first side ever to win three promotions in a row when starting in the fifth tier or higher.

Attention must now turn toward assembling a side that can compete in the Championship come August.

It means we are likely to see a lot of changes on both the incoming and outgoing front this summer.

Steven Fletcher is out of contract in June, and his future in Wales remains up in the air for the time being.

Several more Wrexham players could leave when their deals expire on June 30th, 2025, as well.

On a more exciting note, there should be plenty of new faces arriving at the Racecourse Ground in the next few months.

Wrexham must make ‘tough decisions’ in transfer market

Phil Parkinson has been discussing the transfer window this week, admitting there will be ‘tough decisions’ made.

Wrexham plan to spend £40m+ on wages in the 2025/26 campaign now that they are in the Championship.

And Parkinson has been speaking about adding to an already top-quality squad in the summer window.

As per Leader Live, he said: “We’re going to do what we’ve done this year. We’re going to recruit the right players and try and get the squad as strong as we can, and enjoy the ride because I think that’s really important.

“There’s a lot of tough decisions to be made over the summer in terms of who we bring in and how we add to this fantastic group of lads we’ve got.

“But let’s see if we can build a squad which can compete at that level.

“We’re going to go into the Championship and we’re going to tackle it full-on, committed, and keep representing the club the way we’ve done over the last few years.”

Phil Parkinson on Championship wages

If Wrexham are to attract the best players possible, they will have to pay out a fair amount in wages.

Jay Rodriguez earns £15,000-a-week with the Red Dragons currently and is thought to be one of the club’s higher earners.

But the step up to the Championship is massive, with Parkinson highlighting the ‘mind-blowing’ salaries in the second tier.

He added: “The jump in salaries is just incredible, it’s mind-blowing.

“Even coming up to this level, the jump to get players with Championship quality is expensive.

“That is a challenge but what we’ve always tried to do is make sure the culture in the club is right and I think that’s key.”
