Wrexham striker Paul Mullin has become a hero in recent years but is going through a tough time having scored just once in League One.
Wrexham sit third in the League One table with Phil Parkinson enjoying a strong start to the campaign.
Last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Stockport County was a real blow but Wrexham have still started well.
The once major concern is in the final third with Wrexham struggling for goals in recent weeks.
Paul Mullin has started the season pretty slowly, managing just one goal in 13 League One appearances.
Only five of those appearances came as a starter but Mullin has yet to really show his usual goalscoring brilliance.
Paul Mullin past comments on goal drought
Mullin underwent surgery over the summer and subsequently missed all of pre-season, which certainly hasn’t helped his cause.
This is almost identical to last season; Mullin suffered an injury in pre-season and took a while to find his truly best form.
Mullin thought he was back to his best in October but his goal against Charlton Athletic hasn’t kickstarted a run of goals.
We went back and watched ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ and saw Mullin discussing his disappointment amid a lean run in front of goal during Season Three, Episode Six.
Mullin went eight games without a goal from late January to late February before burying a penalty against Forest Green Rovers.
The 30-year-old feels that he is the ‘opposite’ of the old adage that a goalscoring lull is nothing to worry about as long as the chances are coming.
Mullin feels that he just doesn’t miss chances when they come, so believes that profligacy is actually reason to worry.
Mullin added that he was left really inspired and motivated by the idea that boss Phil Parkinson has ‘lost faith’ in him.
“There’s a saying that people say; ‘if they’re missing chances, don’t worry about it’ with centre forwards, but for me, it’s sort of the opposite – if I’m missing the chances then it’s time to worry because it’s not what I do,” said Mullin.
“I sort of felt like, maybe, because I hadn’t scored for a few games, the gaffer lost faith in me. I think that sort of lit a switch in me, to take it on the chin and get on with it. It’s not about me, it’s all about the team’s success,” he added.

Mullin can prove himself in League One
This mentality is likely how Mullin feels right now too.
The Wrexham goal hero is used to finding the net with great regularity but is now in another tricky run.
Mullin was benched at Stockport on Saturday and that may well be the catalyst for Mullin to really kick on – just as it was last season.
Jacob Mendy predicts goals for Mullin and he will be keen to make sure that he finds his feet and finally proves himself in League One.
The striker had only ever played 20 League One games before this season, scoring just three times at this level with Tranmere Rovers.
Rob McElhenney tempted Mullin into joining Wrexham despite firing Cambridge United to League One, dropping to the National League in the process.
This is Mullin’s chance to prove himself at League One level and after an understandably slow start, he will be desperate to hit the goal trail soon.
