Wrexham have been transformed under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, but their long-term commitment to the club has now been questioned.
The story of Wrexham under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds has been nothing short of remarkable.
The North American duo purchased the club back in February 2021 from the club’s Supporters Trust, who had taken over after years of mismanagement from previous owners.
However, history did not repeat itself with Rob and Ryan, who have transformed Wrexham into one of the most well-known clubs in world football.
The actor’s profiles, as well as the hugely popular ‘Welcome to Wrexham‘ documentary on Disney+, has given the small town in Wales a spotlight on the world stage.
It was confirmed this week as well that Wrexham recorded a record turnover in 2023/24, posting a very impressive £26.75m.
That was in large part down to the huge commercial success the club is now experiencing under McElhenney and Reynolds.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds backed to sell Wrexham
On the pitch, meanwhile, Rob and Ryan’s capture of experienced manager Phil Parkinson back in the summer of 2021 has proven to be a stroke of genius.
Parkinson has won back-to-back promotions, with Wrexham now predicted to finish second in League One this season.
Given all their success and the fact the Red Dragons are now valued at £100m – £98m more than the Hollywood duo paid – fans will probably be surprised to see one former Wycombe Wanderers player tipping McElhenney and Reynolds to sell in the near future.
When discussing the prospect of Wrexham and Birmingham City playing in the Premier League, Joe Jacobson, who left Wycombe in 2024 to retire, backed Rob and Ryan to sell amid ‘murmurings’.
He told Football League World: “But I think Birmingham have a better chance of getting up there, with the bigger infrastructure behind them.
“Just the murmurings of the guys at Wrexham – I feel like at some point they’d sell sooner rather than later, whereas the Birmingham one seems like they’ve got a really long-term plan now.”

Suggestions Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds will sell Wrexham are nonsense
It’s easy to see why Jacobson has suggested the duo could sell, with many claiming that the duo will ‘get bored’ from the moment they bought the club.
But in reality, it seems absurd to think Ryan and Rob want to part ways with the Welsh team anytime soon.
Reynolds’ true feelings on owning Wrexham were revealed earlier this year, with one source stating that ‘the Wrexham project has been a lot closer to his heart and the partnership with Rob McElhenney continues to bear real fruit’ and that Wrexham has ‘captured Ryan’s heart’.
Furthermore, McElhenney’s ultimate goal is to reach the Premier League, and that is going to take some time, meaning a sale anytime soon should be out of the question.
